Well, Ive got a bit of an exclusive for you today! Ive got the actual info provided to staff who will be preparing gluten-free pizza in Dominos so you can judge for yourself. How did I get them? Well, lets just say they fell off the back of a lorry

As these are screenshots and a little small, Ill retype the info below each image to save you getting your magnifying glasses out.

To be honest, I wish companies were more transparent about this information with the public as the more info we have, the better! But of course, Ill let you read it for yourself so you can decide

What About The Schr Base

It’s nice to have the reassurance that, as before the pandemic, the gluten free pizza bases will be brought in pre-packed to ensure there is no cross contamination.

However, many begrudge the fact that you can just nip down to Asda and buy a pack of two Schär gluten free bases for £3.

But if you love spending £14.99 on a pizza then at least you can now get one delivered to your door.

Dominos Doesnt Owe Me A Thing

| Posted In:Editorial

Does it seem ridiculous that Dominos Pizza started offering gluten-free pizza crust that isnt safe for anyone with a real problem with gluten?

Yeah. It does.

Does Dominos owe me safe gluten-free pizza made in a safely gluten-free environment?

Nope. It doesnt. Dominos doesnt owe me a thing.

Am I going to vote with my feet, and stay away? I sure am. No way Id take a chance with my sons health.

Am I mad at Dominos because they cheated me out of some sort of constitutional right to safe gluten-free pizza?

Nope. Im really really not mad at Dominos. Its a business. They make business decisions.

Some are mad that the its-not-really-gluten-free-disclaimer isnt prominent enough. But if were serious about staying gluten-free, we dont take anything at face value. We read labels. We read fine print. We ask questions before you place an order, just to be sure. Thats our responsibility.

Theres a restaurant that my family and I go to sometimes. Its mostly gluten-free, but they also have a regular menu. And I trust them, and feel comfortable there. Yet every single time we go there, I double and triple check with the waitress that all of our meals will, in fact, be gluten-free, since they also serve gluten-containing food.

I know how easy it is to mix things up in a busy kitchen. Staying safe is my responsibility.

Tips For Measuring Gluten

The best way to measure gluten-free flour is the spoon & level method. Using a spoon, scoop the flour into the measuring cup. After youve spooned the flour into the measuring cup, use the back of a knife to level off the top of the measuring cup. Please do not scoop the flour out of the bag with your measuring cup or you could get more gluten-free flour than the recipe calls for.

Also, use a measuring cup made for dry ingredients .

The Incredible Bakery Flatbread Wrap

Another flatbread now but different. These golden flatbreads were a lovely punch of colour and smelt unique to other pizza bases. The gram flour and linseed are the stars of this alternative pizza base and for that reason they may be less favoured by little ones but prove me wrong

Personally, I loved the flavour, and the texture was great too. It kind of made me think I was eating a big puffy taco shellI love taco shells!

Id say this could be another contender for a quick pizza-under-the-grill job. The directions are to warm in a hot oven for 2mins but with toppings you would need longer however, too long and the structure of the flatbread rebels and can go too crispy.

Available in a choice of pack sizes 2, 4 and 10 and can be chilled or frozen, I chose to freeze mine and a single bread took less than 1hr to defrost before I could use it.

Enjoy FREE DELIVERY plus receive a free pack of Burger rolls on all orders of £30 or more. Use HELLO2020 in the coupon code box in your Shopping Cart to receive this offer.

Personally I have never had any issues with ordering gluten free from Domino’s.

And while it’s expensive, it’s nice to have the option of a gluten free treat now and then.

Items To Avoid At Dominos

These items all contain gluten or have a very high risk for gluten contamination:

  • All pizzas are made in the same area and typically cut with the same pizza cutter, so unless you dont have an allergy and are just reducing gluten in your diet, we dont recommend ordering any pizzas here, even the gluten free crust.
  • All sandwiches, bread twists, desserts, and pasta options contain gluten.
  • All specialty chicken items contain gluten.
  • The Chicken Caesar Salad and Classic Garden Salad both have croutons in a separate packet, and are listed as containing gluten on Dominos webpage.
  • Watch out for these sauces, they contain gluten: Alfredo Sauce, 5-Cheese Dip, Cheesey Marinara Dip
  • The Chicken Taco pizza topping has gluten in it.

Dominos Gluten Free Menu Items And Options

Dominos is one of the most popular pizza delivery and carryout chains around the world with over 18,000 stores in more than 90 countries. Offering pizza, chicken, sandwiches, breads, and desserts, there are a lot of fun food options to enjoy. But are any of them gluten free and safe for people with Celiac Disease?

The Incredible Bakery Pizza Dough

Gewoon lekker makkelijk

This was the only un-made pizza base but as it was not a dry mix I wanted to add it to the round-up, plus I was intrigued as I think that this is the only ready-made gluten free and vegan pizza dough out there?

I loved how this was delivered, it felt really special to have 6 individual little boxes of dough and all packaging is plastic free in this instance.

The goods came frozen/chilled and I was able to transfer them to the freezer immediately.

When it came to using the dough I took one carton out and defrosted on the kitchen window sill for about 3hrs, although it says it can take up to 6hrs. The dough needs to be reworked briefly on a well floured surface and I was surprised at how glutenous it appeared. The smells from the dough were amazing. Proper rich and deep yeasty smells.

I rolled the dough out to approximately 8 inches and tidied the edges by pinching any uneven bits and tucking them under to form a higher sided crust.

Once cooked the crust didnt have the golden look I had expected. I wonder if thats because my brain thought it was dealing with a gluten pizza dough and my expectations were unrealistic. I will brush the edges next time with some soy milk so this will solve that issue.

This pizza had a lovely crispy crust and you could taste that it was a fresh pizza dough which we didnt get from the other pizza bases for obvious reasons.

Gluten Free Pizza Crust

Dominos offers a gluten free pizza crust that you can get various toppings on. Here is the statement they share on the page:

Dominos is proud to offer our Gluten Free Crust for those who are looking to reduce gluten in their diet. This product is not for everyone, so we want you to have all the information before you try it.

Our Gluten Free Crust contains no wheat, rye, or barley and has a gluten content of less than 20ppm. We make all of our pizzas in the same kitchens and even as clean as we keep them, there may be trace glutens present. Therefore, it wouldnt be entirely honest to guarantee that pizzas made with this crust are absolutely gluten free. And if we werent honest, we wouldnt be Dominos.

So now you know the facts. If youre looking for a great tasting pizza crust without the gluten , try Dominos pizza made with our Gluten Free Crust.

Additionally, Dominos shares this in their website footer: Dominos pizza made with a Gluten Free Crust is prepared in a common kitchen with the risk of gluten exposure. Therefore, Dominos DOES NOT recommend this pizza for customers with celiac disease. Customers with gluten sensitivities should exercise judgment in consuming this pizza.

Pizza Toppings & Dressings

These are all of the pizza toppings and dressings at Dominos that do not contain wheat/gluten ingredients.

  • American Cheese
  • Garlic Parmesan Sauce
  • Green Chile Pepper
  • Phase Oil
  • Philly Meat
  • Pizza Sauce
  • Premium Grilled Chicken

Venice Bakery Gluten Free Pizza Bases

These Venice Bakery bases come in three sizes medium, large and extra-large measuring at 10, 12 and 14 inches. I didnt receive the extra-large version which was a relief, it would have been too big for my family during this round up, but I will certainly be buying it in the future for Friday Pizza nights so we can all tuck into it.

These are the only bases to arrive shrink wrapped and as they are so thin, they take up no space whatsoever in the fridge of freezer. These are the second bases to come with a golden colour to them already which as Ive mentioned above is a lovely thing to behold on a gluten free pizza.

If you love true thin crust Italian pizza, then these will be right up your street. They are lovely and crispy around the crust, hold up to lots of pizza toppings and these were in fact my daughters favourite as she not a bread-loving person so thicker bases are not her thing.

The bases have lots of authentic olive oil in them too so not at all dry. This made them a great cold pizza to eat so ideal for picnics and packer lunches or cold buffets. As with all the other pizzas so far these were fine on reheating too.

How Do You Make Gluten

During quarantine last year, I did my fair share of making gluten-free pizzas from scratch . I started by making rice flour crusts. They eventually worked out, but the dough did not bind together as well as regular pizza dough. . Eventually, I decided to take a different approach and began baking with Bobs Red Mill gluten-free bread flour, which became my favorite method.

This crust is naturally dairy-free, using extra-virgin olive oil, honey, and warm water as the wet ingredients. The dry ingredients include gluten-free bread flour, baking powder, and salt, making this crust allergen-friendly and simple to bake. A good gluten-free pizza is all about the dough. There are plenty of pizza crust recipes out there, but most of them include dry yeast, and since thats not something I keep in my pantry at all times, here is my favorite gluten-free, yeast-free pizza crust!

I usually par-bake extra crusts to cook later when I am in a rush, so next time I want a yummy pizza, I can just pull it out of the freezer, add sauce and cheese, and bake! To make the pizza baking process even faster, you can bake the pizza in an outdoor pizza oven once the dough is made.

Why Did Dominos Stop Gluten Free Pizzas

Dominos Gluten free pizza review/ MUKBANG with Daiya cheese

In December 2019, Domino’s delivered an early Christmas present in the form of removing its entire gluten free menu.

And with it came an explanatory blog post, detailing the reasonings behind this

The chain said due to social distancing measures, it had to reduce staff in its kitchens.

Of these ‘major changes’, Domino’s said: “To enable all the above means the specific areas we previously had to make GF pizzas are no longer available and of course sending them down the makeline with other products mean we can no longer guarantee the gluten free status of your pizza.”

And while this angered many people – I completely get it.

I’d much rather they stopped preparing gluten free pizzas if they cannot guarantee their gluten free status.

Domino’s is Coeliac UK accredited which means they will have very strict procedures to adhere to in order to advertise as gluten free.

So it wouldn’t have been right for them to continue to prepare our gluten free pizzas in an environment they couldn’t confirm was safe.

And now, 18 months later, with restrictions in the UK finally starting to relax a little the gluten free Dominos pizzas are back!
