Aldi Review – Low Carb – Gluten Free – Vegan

This had a much fluffier texture and more buttery flavor than I wouldve expected,” said our managing editor, Brinda Ayer. “Gluten-free flours and baking mixes can often be gummy and dense, but this was the opposite.” Above all, it passed her most important test for approval: “I would definitely buy and bake again.

***This product contains Barley Malt Extract and Barley is a gluten grain.***However, barley malt extract is usually added in small quantities and the end product usually has less than 20ppm , of BME in it. This means it can legally be labelled as being gluten-free.

However, Coeliac-UK have recently begun taking steps that will require more than a companies assurance that their end product has been tested and contains less than 20ppm. The result of this will be greater clarification for consumers with gluten-free labelling.

For now, if a product contains BME, be aware that while the end product usually contains less than 20ppm and should therefore be safe to consume because this amount is so minimal, you dont know for sure without asking the company if their end product contains less than 20ppm.Therefore there is always a chance the end product could contain more than 20ppm of Barley Malt Extract.

Aldis Gluten Free Pesto And Pasta Sauces:

I cannot recommend Aldis pestos enough.I got sick and tired of buying expensivegluten-free labelled pesto, but Aldimake them gluten free as standard.I was very happy when I noticed this.

Aldis pasta sauces are really quite delicious.I prefer to use the specially selected ones, although the jars are smaller, because the flavour is a lot more intense.

Not only do Aldi offer gluten free pasta sauces but also some Chilli, White sauces and Sweet n Sour ones too.

It might surprise you to know that a lot of brands include gluten-containingingredients in their bottled sauces.Aldi are really great with this and have a ton of options which are gluten-free.Always check the ingredients labelsthough in case changes occur in manufacturing.

I much prefer Aldis Tomato Ketchup to any other stores own brand in the UK.

Here Are My Familys Favorite Gluten And Dairy Free Aldis Items:

Chicken Nuggets

Although I often make my own, these are fabulous to have on hand for those nights when we have evening or afterschool activities and limited time. I also love that they use Canola oil rather than a higher omega-6 oil like vegetable, sunflower or safflower.

Some say that vegetable oils should not be part of your diet because they are high in Omega-6 fats. Omega-6 fats fuel your bodys inflammatory pathways, and can undo any benefit eating omega-3s would normally give you. For that reason, we choose to avoid them.

Bagels

We like both the cinnamon raisin and the plain. We use the plain bagels to make individual mini pizzas that cook quickly in the toaster oven. The cinnamon raisin make a good French toast bake.

Cocoa Loco baRs

Individually packed, these are great for school lunches! Additionally, they are our go-to when we have a birthday party or gathering where we might need a substitute sweet treat.

sweet chili brown rice chips

Honestly, my kiddos dont like these, but I love them. Too much. Like, open-a-bag-and-watch-them-disappear love them. The sweet, salty, mildly spicy combo on these are fantastic!

almond milk

Friendly Farms brand comes in plain and vanilla. We use this on cereal and as a substitute in baking recipes.

For cooking, I like the original, unsweetened version of this almond milk. Conversely, for some baking recipes and on our cereal we use the vanilla version.

Livegfree Gluten Free Egg Rolls

Few small bites beat the earth-shattering crispiness of a freshly fried egg roll except, maybe, for a freshly fried egg roll that’s frozen and ready to be reheated at your convenience. LiveGfree’s vegetarian egg rolls are stuffed with cabbage, onion, carrots, vermicelli, scallions, and spices. Each $4.99 box has three generously-sized egg rolls, and there’s also a chicken version.

Moser Roth Vegan Chocolate

The organic options dont stop there. These chocolate bars are labelled as vegan, gluten-free and organic. The blonde bar is white chocolate and its the best vegan white chocolate Ive ever had. The classic is their take on vegan milk chocolate and the dark is well, dark. I found these in the Special Buys section so make sure to have a hunt around for them if you cant find them in the chocolate aisle.

Aldis Gluten Free Crisps

I have a real weakness for Monster Munchand I have to say, Aldis own versioncalled Monster Claws, are pretty bang-onand taste almost exactly the same.Give them a try.

I know the Veggie Straws are marketed with children in mind, but thesecrisps are so delicious I buy themregularly for the whole family.Try them with hummus you wont be disappointed.

The Foodie Market brand is reallyawesome. The Lentil and Hummus Bitestaste betterthan other moreexpensive brands I think!

The idea that people are nutritionally deprived because they dont eat grain has no scientific basis.

All the products listed below have no gluten-containing ingredients within the list of the main ingredients and a large majority of them are labelled gluten-free. Gluten Free Fusilli Pasta 99p

I was soooo gutted I couldnt find this in my Aldi because its actually quite a big deal for me as gluten free pasta is NEVER in Aldi. Usually, I cant buy gf bread OR pasta in there I often end up having to go to two supermarkets in a day to get everything I need which is a real pain.

So if they had the gf fusilli in stock then combined with the BFree pittas I could actually do a full weekly shop in Aldi for once! But as I said, let me know in the comments if you find them in yours

Livegfree Chocolate Gluten Free Donuts

Cue the nostalgia for Saturday morning donuts after movie nights with friends. These glossy treats are light, fluffy, and so thoroughly coated that each cakey bite has a generous slick of rich chocolate frosting. The donuts, also available in a glazed version, are $4.49 a box and are small enough to be eaten on the go or arranged into a fanciful donut pyramid for your next afternoon tea party.

Aldi Gluten Free Pizza Crust Mix

Ive tried other gluten free pizza crustsone at home mix and 3+ pizzas from restaurant and this baking mix is definitely in the top tier! The crust is thicker like regular pizza dough crust, which I love! I hate when the crust is flat and basically just a grease collector. Yuck! I also liked the thorough instructions because they really explained working with gluten free ingredients. The other mix I used I remember feeling frustrated by the spreading of the crust but the boxs tip to keep wetting your hands as you spread the crust really did the trick! I would definitely recommend this crust! Each mix makes two 12 inch pizzas. I made one big one instead.

Fresh Produce Is Naturally Gluten Free

This one tops my list and for good reason: Its an entire food group and we eat tons of it!

As with any grocery store, I carefully scrutinize all the produce I buy. There are times when I have to forgo something on my list because the quality just isnt there. But most of the time, I fill up my cart with loads of high quality fresh fruits and veggies because Aldi has great prices on great tasting in-season produce. They even have very good prices on organic produce.

Some of my favorite buys include:

  • butternut squash and spaghetti squash
  • romaine lettuce package
  • blackberries

Aldis Celebrates Celiac Awareness Month

Aldis is doing it again. Every year, they celebrate Celiac Awareness Month by introducing all kinds of new gluten-free products. This year is no different, despite the quarantine.

If youre not familiar with Aldis, its a grocery store chain that carries only their own brands, at a significant discount. The shopping experience is similar to Costco or BJs, with boxes and crates of product, but on a smaller scale, minus the bulk purchase requirement and free samples. Shopping carts must be rented for a quarter, which you get back after returning the cart, and theyve never offered grocery bags.

Aldis gluten-free brand is called LiveGFree, and is super popular for its price, variety, safety, and quality. The range of products is huge, from chicken nuggets and pie crusts to cookies, pasta, wraps, rice crisps, cereal, pretzels and more. New items dropped this month include chocolate covered donuts, glazed donuts, empanadas, lasagna roll-ups, and a cheesecake sampler.

Supply and variety do vary across locations, and some new items have not yet reached all stores. If youre looking for something in particular, call before you go to avoid the current risk of an unneeded trip. But, once world is healthy again, go browse the aisles, take notes, and be prepared to make some impulse purchases.

Thank you, Aldis for making our lives easier and so delicious. Happy Celiac Awareness Month to all, and stay safe!

Are Aldis best-kept secrets? Finding the perfect cookie aisle in your local supermarket may only happen if youre one of the bargain hunters. The Benton cookies, which people say remind them of Samoas, Tagalongs, and Chips Ahoy, come at a fraction of the price at the Aldi brand. According to Aldi fans, they compare to those at several other grocery chains.
