Ace California Cider Company, opened in 1993, is the first family owned cider in the US. Its based in Sonoma, California and truly has some of the most unique and flavorful gluten free cider options Ive found. I also love that they have bottles and cans!
Unlike true ciders which are gluten free, malted beverages and wine coolers are NOT gluten free. Malt is derived from barley which contains gluten, and these drinks are not distilled, so the gluten remains in the bottle.

Meads like Charm City Mead on the top shelf above, ARE gluten free. Mead is made from fermented fruits and honey, no grain.
Some brands of fermented, malted beverages are now claiming to be gluten-removed. Please use caution in choosing to try these types of beverages.
When fermented and malted beverages are made with gluten but claim to be processed to remove or break apart the gluten molecules, they are not able to verify the gluten content of the resulting beverage .
Is Bacardi Gluten Free
Yes, Bacardi rum is gluten free, with the exception of Bacardi Silver. This beverage is malt-based, meaning itâs made with barley which does contain gluten.
Rum is made from molasses and sugarcane, which donât come in contact with wheat ingredients. If you want to be completely sure a Bacardi product is gluten free, review the drinkâs nutrition facts on their website.
How To Order Liquor Safely
Even though most liquor is technically gluten-free, it’s still possible to have a gluten-related reaction to the alcohol you drink. This is likely due to the ingredients added after the alcohol is distilled, Jaramillo explains.
So, it’s best to purchase pure alcohol, steering clear of different flavors or mixers. At the store, check for hidden gluten by reading the ingredient list and finding a gluten-free label on the bottle.

Which Drinks Dont Contain Gluten Or Alcohol
To be considered gluten-free a product must contain fewer than 20ppm of gluten. While many coeliacs are satisfied with this, some people will prefer to avoid gluten completely. The easiest way to do this can be to avoid all products containing wheat, rye, or barley. And remember that some gluten-free products may be made in a facility where gluten is present. It is important to note that there are not strict requirements for producers to test the gluten levels in their products in the UK, but if you are in doubt you should contact the producer directly and ask them to clarify the steps they take to ensure their product can be listed as gluten-free. I contacted a few when writing this article and they were all very happy to respond.For the most part, ciders, wines, sodas, kombuchas, and clear spirits are gluten-free. In general, the risk of gluten contamination is higher for traditionally produced European wines than wines from the US, Australia or South America. Therefore, although most wines are not labeled gluten-free, they can be regarded as a safe alcoholic beverage for people with gluten sensitivity.
Fortified wines, such as port, sherry or vermouth , are also gluten-free because distilled alcohol that is added to fortify them is made from grapes.
Is Amaretto Gluten Free
Yes, most Amaretto is gluten free because the alcohol goes through a distillation process. Other ingredients used in Amaretto like almonds, apricot kernels, and peach stones also have no contact with wheat.
If the Amaretto youâre buying comes from a large facility, double-check that itâs not produced on equipment shared with gluten-related products. Oftentimes, this is the only way to guarantee that there are no gluten ingredients or fining agents in your beverage.

Ill admit, this title is a bit of a mouthful. As a bartender, you have no idea how difficult it is to create a cocktail with little to no sugar. Yes, all wine is gluten free!
Most wine tends to be gluten free from an ingredients perspective. The only time wine may be suspect to glutenous ingredients or cross contamination is from the wheat paste/sealant used in wine barrels.
This sealant sometimes tend to leak into the wine thus cross contaminating the wine.
However, most wineries are starting to remove this paste from their barrels.
So if you do have any questions about whether or not a wine contains gluten, its advised to contact the winery directly to see if their wines or barrels contain any wheat or glutenous ingredients.

Distilled Alcohol Is Gluten Free
Is there gluten free alcohol? Yes! Liquors like rum , tequila and brandy are not made with gluten, so they are safe for celiacs and others with gluten sensitivity.
Distilled grain alcohols including vodka, bourbon, whiskey, scotch, brandy, and gin ARE gluten free even though they are made with gluten containing grains. The distillation process actually removes the gluten protein from the end product, so unless the manufacturer adds gluten as a flavoring AFTER distillation, those liquors are indeed gluten free.
Let me repeat that in case it was unclear: A PROPER DISTILLATION REMOVES GLUTEN PROTEINS. Therefore, even though grain alcohols may have started out with wheat or barley or rye, after distillation the process that transforms them into liquor they no longer contain gluten. Period.
Check with the manufacturer directly if you are concerned that gluten in flavoring may be added after distillation many, like Frangelico, for example, are proactively declaring on their websites that their formulas are gluten free.
Distilled alcohol choices made only from gluten free grains like corn or potato also exist, for those with wheat or barley allergy or those who wish to drink naturally gluten free liquor.
