I think its safe to assume that the majority of the population loves pizza. Whether it be a classic cheese or a meat lovers or a veggie za, most people cant resist pizza. With that being said, not everyone can have them. A large number of people are Gluten intolerant and sometimes its hard finding a good gluten-free pizza that wont make your stomach turn and land you in the bathroom for the rest of the night.

Luckily though many restaurants and pizzerias have come to the realization that they need to be inclusive when it comes to dietary restrictions. We have created a list of the 8 best places to order gluten-free pizza in Chicago. All my fellow gluten-free eaters can now rest easy knowing that they wont have to skip out on a Netflix and pizza night. For more gluten-free friendly restaurants, check out our guide here.

No 2 Pepperoni Udis Gluten

Where we bought it: Target, $9.99

Nutrition per serving:

Calories 370 | Fat 18g | Sodium 900mg | Carbs 37g | Protein 15g

Box says: New improved recipe. Crispier crust. 40% more cheese.

We say: Udis offered probably the second best gluten-free crust we tried. When cooked, it was crispy around the edges and the bottom was not soggy and limp like most gluten-free pies we tried. Theres plenty of pepperoni too. But the star of this show was the generous amount of ooey-gooey cheese. And lots of cheese is never a bad thing.

Paulie Gees Logan Square

Paulie Gees keeps getting better. The restaurant launched with a stellar thin-crust pizza cooked in a blazing hot wood-fired oven, which one could most accurately call Neapolitan-inspired, though it features a crisper crust and a nearly sacrilegious approach to topping choices. Shortly thereafter, owner Derrick Tung unleashed his twisted version of Detroit-style pizza, cranking up the ridiculousness of the original, while still avoiding gut-bomb territory. And then, after the spring shutdown, he started selling foldable New York slices out of the front window, which quickly trounced any other version in town. N.K.

We say: Easily the worst crust we tried watery, with a slimy texture. The only craving we had was to toss this slice in the trash can.

Wheatless Wonders In The Windy City

Gluten can be difficult to avoid at restaurants. A protein mixture found in wheat and other grains, such as barley and rye, gluten appears throughout most menus. Beyond bread, pasta and baked goods, it appears in most soy sauce and many marinades and sauces, as well as through cross-contamination in busy kitchens. But avoiding this allergen, which was once nearly impossible, has become somewhat less of a challenge in a top-notch food city like Chicago. Some of the citys top restaurants are making an effort to serve delicious food sans gluten, separating cooking facilities and working hard to identify gluten-free dishes. Here are the cant-miss gluten-free restaurants and bakeries in Chicago.

No 13 Margherita Caulipower

Chicago’s Best Gluten Free: Open

Where we bought it: Target, $6.49

Nutrition per serving:

Calories 330 | Fat 15g | Sodium 470mg | Carbs 37g | Protein 12g

Box says: Less than half the sugar of leading gluten-free pizzas. Excellent source of Vitamin C. Good source of protein.

We say: This one looked like the photo on the box, but we couldnt get past the overwhelming cauliflower taste and the consistency of the crust. Drink some OJ if you want vitamin C.

Louisas Pizza & Pasta

The late Louise DeGenero was born in Italy, worked at Pizzeria Due, then opened Louisas in 1981 with a pizza thats more Italian and Chicago style pan than deep-dish. Its completely unlike the thin, high-sided, crunchy cornmeal bottom-crusted pie at Due. Instead, a thick yet light base hugs and holds mozzarella, Anichini Brothers pizza sausage and house-made tomato sauce. The second- and third-generation family co-owners allow limited seating inside the dim 70s style strip mall supper club, but have transformed the hidden back parking lot into an unlikely, lovely little piazza with strategically placed tents, tarps and floral tablecloths that would do nonna proud. Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream

Chicago is an Italian sausage topping town. While pepperoni reigns supreme basically everywhere else, we have an almost fanatical love of fresh Italian sausage. For my money, no place serves juicier or more flavorful hunks of sausage than Pizza Fried Chicken Ice Cream in Bridgeport. The mixture is made by Makowskis Real Sausage Co., also located in Bridgeport, and then doctored up with fresh sage. Its served on a stellar Sicilian-style crust, which looks thick and imposing, yet is much lighter than youd expect. N.K.

No 6 Pepperoni Smart Flour Foods

Top 5 Gluten Free Pizzas in Chicago

Where we bought it: Fresh Thyme, $7.99

Nutrition per serving:

Calories 350 | Fat 16g | Sodium 910mg | Carbs 41g | Protein 13g

Box says: Come on, dig in! No artificial flavors, colors or preservatives. Minimally processed meats. Excellent source of calcium. Free of gluten, soy and rice. Cheese made from milk from cows not treated with rBST.

We say: The flavor of this crust is a good contender in the gluten-free market, but it was flimsy and didnt hold up under the weight of the toppings. This pizza did score higher because of the thick layer of yummy cheese.

The Little Beet Table

If youve eaten your way through New York City, then chances are youve been to one of the many locations there, so you dont need an introduction to this healthy yet delicious restaurant, The Little Beet Table. If not, no worries. Little Beet is a wholesome, veggie forward restaurant thats not afraid to add some good quality meat to your meal. Everything is always fresh and tasty. My recommendation is to start with the chicken mole tostadas and go for one of the plates for the main like the jerk chicken. You can always go for the salad, burger or tacos if you want something different. Either way, they will not disappoint. With a handful of natural drinks, cocktails and a scrumptious 100% gluten-free menu, The Little Beet Table is one of the best gluten-free restaurants in Chicago to have brunch or dinner.

Gluten Free Pizza Crust Chronicles

This isnt my first attempt at a gluten free pizza crust recipe. Ive tried countless times and the results have only beenmeh. But recently I ordered a couple boxes of King Arthurs Gluten Free All Purpose Flour from iHerb to see if it would work in my Gluten Free Bread Recipe. It worked so well that I decided to try out the gluten free pizza crust recipe on their website as well.

With a few adaptations and following the advice of some of the reviewers on the King Arthur recipe I can say that the result was MUCH better than any other gluten free pizza crust recipe I have ever tried and worthy of making its debut here on Natural Fit Foodie.

Best Gluten Free Pizza In Chicago

My current ordering places are Lou Malnati’s and Home Run Inn. Any other suggestions? I’m not a super fan of Chicago’s Pizza, .

Would love to know of a good one too. I have gone to Chicago’s Pizza and thought it was pretty good, but have since read reviews where people have been getting sick.

Lou’s crustless pizza is amazing.

Their GF crust is ok but NOT deep dish.

Aurelio’s is our go to place.

Happy Camper and Homeslice. I have only had Homeslice pizza when the owner brought it in to my place of work since we were helping him on a project but it was phenomenal and they are both owned/operated by the same individuals.

Spacca Napoli, hands down. But it is more of a classy joint than a pizza parlor, and not cheap.

Have you been to Da Luciano? I only visit Chicago a few times a year, so I haven’t had their pizza, but they have an extensive gluten free list. It’s actually incredible. Their stuff in general is really, so I wouldn’t be surprised if their pizza followed suit.

Pats Pizza And Ristorante

Chicago pizza will probably forever be associated with thick-as-a-brick styles like deep-dish and stuffed pizza, but youll be hard pressed to find a thinner pizza anywhere than the offering at Pats Pizza. In some parts, the flaky crust looks nearly paper thin, yet it stays sturdy enough to never collapse. On top, the sauce is spread all the way to the edges, so you get a dark tomato flavor with each bite. The kitchen does a good job of putting on only a moderate amount of cheese surely any more would cause structural collapse. N.K.

Millys Pizza In The Pan

The 5 best gluten

Burt could never, I thought when I opened the box. Robert Maleski named Millys for his grandmother Emily, but was inspired by Burts Place founder Burt Katz, his spiritual pizza godfather. After a pandemic-related layoff, Maleski started making what he also calls pizza-in-the-pan. He currently works out of a shared or ghost kitchen in the Logan Square neighborhood. You have to order ahead, but days, hours and pizza are very limited. Katz got so much grief for his so-called rules, but he could never have imagined selling out of such precious pizzas. Unless he saw how theyre so beautiful, so light, so vibrant and ringed with an ode to his caramelized crust. Then he would understand better than anyone how much theyre worth it all. L.C.

Nutrition per serving:

Calories 380 | Fat 19g | Sodium 780mg | Carbs 37g | Protein 15g

Box says: New improved recipe. Crispier crust. 40% more cheese

We say: A good option for those looking for gluten-free pizzas, though we wish it had a bit more cheese and was more consistent in its coverage of the crust. Makes you wonder what it was like before they added 40% more cheese.
