How Bad Is Digiorno Pizza For You

DiGiorno Three Meat Croissant Crust Pizza

This pizza is high in calories, sodium, saturated fat, and carbs and the ingredient list is really long, with mostly processed ingredients, says Ilyse Schapiro MS, RD, CDN. Compared to other regular frozen pizzas, this is one of the highest in calories per serving, too.

Does Freschetta Make Gluten Free Pizza

As a product certified by the National Celiac Association, our Gluten Free Pizza is made to the high standards youd expect from FRESCHETTA®. And, as the proud recipient of the Progressive Grocers 2014 Best New Product Award, that doesnt mean having to sacrifice great taste to enjoy a great pizza.

What To Look For

Fully Cooked Gluten

Sauces and baked goods, like cookie dough in ice cream, are generally a giveaway of gluten. Look for ingredients such as wheat flour and barley malt syrup, which contain gluten. Many brands will also include a note in the ingredients section about allergens like gluten or soy.

While ice cream that doesnt have any ingredients that contain gluten listed on the label is safe for people with gluten sensitivity or people who are hoping to avoid gluten, there is still a risk of cross-contamination. People with celiac disease should avoid them.

Cross-contamination is a major concern for the 3 million people in the United States with celiac disease. Even microscopic amounts of gluten can cause a reaction, according to the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. For people with celiac disease, its extremely important that ice cream be labeled as gluten-free, or that it has a gluten-free certification. All foods labeled as gluten-free, free of gluten, no gluten, or without gluten must have less than 20 parts per million of gluten, according to

Is Digiorno The Best Frozen Pizza

THE VERDICT

DiGiorno was by far the best tasting frozen pizza with the most satisfying cheesiness and overall flavor. Heres the thing no frozen pizza will be as good as a fresh New York slice or getting delivery from your local pizzeria. But DiGiorno hits all the most important notes you need for a pizza.

Column: Schwans Delivers Organic Gluten

Schwans Home Delivery recently added organic and gluten-free foods in the forms of fruits, vegetables and pizzas. Admittedly, I came to this knowledge because a Schwans representative offered to send samples of each.

I took the fruits and vegetables home for a massively unscientific study and taste test with my family and sent the gluten-free pizzas home with a friend whose family has gluten sensitivities.

Fruits veggies

First up were the mango chunks, which were made into smoothies then subjected to a blind taste test against Dole mango chunks. My wife, the designated smoothie maker in our house, prepared the samples, and my daughter and I tasted. Hands down, we both chose the Schwans smoothie because the fruit was fully blended and much sweeter. Although my wife knew which was which, she agreed the Schwans was better, giving it a clean sweep in the taste test.

The other organic fruit offering a blend of pineapple, blueberries and mango didnt fare as well in a smoothie. It wasnt tested against another name-brand blend but we preferred the straight mango smoothie. None of the individual fruit flavors stood out in the smoothie. However, mixed with yogurt the fruits were more flavorful and distinct.

Gluten-free pizzas

I dont have much personal experience with gluten-free foods so I asked my friend and his family to test the pizzas, one pepperoni and one four-cheese.

Why Does Schwans Home Delivery Choose To Freeze Food

Freezing food is the best way to lock nutrition, flavor and freshness into your foods. By freezing, the need for additives and preservatives is much lower. Fresh produce can be picked at the peak of ripeness and frozen at the optimal nutritional value. In addition, Schwans incredible selection of wild-caught seafood from clean, ice cold ocean waters is immediately flash-frozen. With the latest advances in freezing technology, there is practically no difference in taste and quality of fresh verses frozen foods.

Schwans website even offers an informative video from Schwans Chef Collective that teaches about the benefits of cooking and serving vegetables that have been freshly picked and frozen within minutes. Check it out!

Why Go Organic

Organically grown foods have more vitamins, minerals and enzymes than commercial foods because the soil is nourished by responsible standards. Levels of vitamin C are higher in organic vegetables and they provide more iron, magnesium and phosphorus. Many people say that organically-grown food just tastes better but another strong reason to eat organic is avoiding GMOs . There have been no long term studies on humans as to the effects GMOs will have on our bodies. Lastly, by eating organic meat, you can avoid harmful hormones, antibiotics and drugs that are often in the fatty tissue of commercial meat products.
