Glutino Blueberry Breakfast Bars

I found some of these Glutino Blueberry bars newly on sale at my local grocery store and HAD to give them a try! For years, Ive been on the hunt for a gluten-free replacement to quell my cravings for a Nutrigrain bar, and these looked extremely promising. Best decision EVER.

Taste: Identical, and I mean identical to a Nutrigrain bar. The blueberry flavor is spot on, just like fresh picked berries or homemade blueberry jam!

Texture: The fruit filling was creamy and soft and the bar itself is reminiscient of a fresh baked cookievery soft and doughy. It isnt crumbly or cardboard-y in the least, like most other gluten free attempts at breakfast items.

Smell: Fresh blueberries! AMAZING! When heated, it smelled like oatmeal raisin cookies in the oven!

Gluten-filled counterpart:Nutrigrain Cereal Bars

Price:$4.50-$5.00 a box

Nutrition: Low fat and not too shabby on the fiber for a gluten free product . The sugars are a bit high at 17g per bar, even if some are from the berries themselves, but besides that, theyre a pretty healthy option for an on-the-go snack.

Ingredients:BLUEBERRY FILLING , CHICK PEA FLOUR, POTATO STARCH, FRUCTOSE, PEAR JUICE CONCENTRATE, RAISIN PASTE, INULIN, CANOLA OIL, TAPIOCA STARCH, WHITE RICE FLOUR, WATER, SODIUM BICARBONATE.

Product Review: Glutino Strawberry Breakfast Bars

As mentioned in my review on Crunchmaster Crackers, I received some complimentary samples courtesy of Mambo Sprouts to review for Celiac Awareness month. Glutino Strawberry Breakfast Bars were next on my list to sample.

I had tried the breakfast bars a couple years back and was not impressed with them in the least. I think I may have had a hard time even finishing the Blueberry Breakfast Bar. However, there have been some major improvements to this bar. I was suspired when I first bit into this bar. The bar was reminiscent of a Nutri-Grain cereal bar! The outside was soft, thought not as soft as a gluten-filled cereal bar. The filling was flavorful and does not contain HFCS , as Nutri-Grain bars do. Jon and I fought over the remaining bars in the box. Notice I used the past tense. They are all gone These were a huge hit! The ingredient list:

Strawberry filling , chick pea flour, corn flour, fructose, pear juice concentrate, raisin paste, inulin, canola oil, tapioca starch, white rice flour, water, cinnamon, sodium bicarbonate.

If there was a negative about these bars, it would be the price. $6.19/box of 5 bars is pricey. However, when compared to purchasing individual Lara Bars , the cost is comparable. Each bar contains 160 calories, 3 grams of fat, 3 grams of fiber and 3 grams of protein. Glutino Strawberry Breakfast Bars can be found in grocery stores around the US or online here.

Gluten Free Breakfast Bars

Those of you who follow these review columns know that I am not a fan ofbreakfast bars. They are OK for emergencies but don’t make good replacementsfor a decent breakfast. You are far better off taking a few minutes tohave a bowl of cereal or a quickie scrambled egg and toast. Heck, a slice ofpeanut butter toast is so quick and simple that there’s really no excuse.

In our previous reviews we couldn’t really find much in the way of a standoutproduct. But what about folks with celiac disease? Are gluten free productsany better or are they worse?

Glutino sells what they call an “Organic Bar.” The flavor testedwas called wildberry and this wasn’t bad. If you are on a gluten freediet, this would be OK to keep on in your purse, office desk or car for emergencies. It is similar to the Special K bars in size and looks sort of like alot of seeds stuck together with honey. The berry flavor is fairly fresh tasting. We give this a thumbs up .

Next up were Glutino breakfast bars. The blueberry version doesn’t tastemuch like blueberry at all. The crust is a bit grainy and has a somewhatraw flour flavor. The flavor of the filling is good but it’s more ofa plum taste. There’s good reason for this. Looking at the ingredientsthere’s very little in the way of blueberries. It is the second to last ingredient, coming just before natural flavor.
