Gluten Free Pop Tarts

Gluten-Free Strawberry Poptarts

Your best bet is homemade. I have made and enjoyed these Gluten-Free Pop Tarts from Gluten-Free on a Shoe String. If you dont need to avoid gluten, then the best compromise Ive found are these Organic, GMO-Free, Toaster Pastries. They are still an obviously processed food, but at least its made with organic and GMO-free ingredients.

I’ve been gluten free for 2 and a half years now after finding out I had an intolerance to wheat. If you are gluten free as well, you understand that there are no good tasting pop tarts from the knockoff gluten free companies. In my opinion, all of them have fallen short of Kellogg’s original design and taste.

If you’re a pop tart lover then you have to try this gluten-free and dairy-free giant strawberry pop tart! It’s as delicious as it looks with a flaky gluten-free pastry, a luscious strawberry filling and a sweet glaze on top. Kids and adults alike will love this easy breakfast pastry.

Can I Make This Recipe Without Coconut

The fudge filling does contain coconut cream, and I didnt try to make it without that ingredient. However, if you need to, just try substituting an equal amount of a non-dairy milk that works for your dietary needs. If the filling doesnt thicken, add a little bit of tapioca starch or corn starch to a little more non-dairy milk and whisk together. Then slowly add it to the fudge sauce, stirring constantly, until it thickens.

Gluten Free Pop Tarts From Kellogg’s

I’ve been gluten free for 2 and a half years now after finding out I had an intolerance to wheat. If you are gluten free as well, you understand that there are no good tasting pop tarts from the knockoff gluten free companies. In my opinion, all of them have fallen short of Kellogg’s original design and taste. It seems that all other competitors can not get it right.

The substitution just doesn’t work for them and often tastes awful. Although understandable that these “breakfast” tarts might taste different without wheat, the GF recipe is not perfected by knockoffs and the taste never gets better, as I can explain, usually GF foods get more savory and tasty the longer you live without the wheat.

So Kellogg, I and the others who are signing this wish for you to work on a GF pop tart. One that will make us not wish we want to die internally because we miss the “real deal”. Let us have the real deal but without the wheat.

Jam Or Fruit Preserve

If you cut pop tarts in the size of 2.5 x 4 inch rectangles, you can add 2 tsp tops of your favorite jam. May it be strawberry, blueberry, sour cherry, peach. Whatever you have on hand. A quick note though: When you make vegan pop tarts with jam filling, make sure not to over-fill them. Due to their sugar content and to the high temperature in the oven, the jam will be boiling and will pop the tarts open if you add too much. Poking holes on the top helps, but not necessarily. They will still be delicious though.

How Long Will Gluten

If you store your pop tarts on the counter in an airtight container, they can last a couple days. However, we recommend these 3 compartment meal prep containers so you can add the hard-boiled eggs and melon for a perfect quick breakfast, and store them for up to a week in the fridge. Just grab one on the go in the morning and enjoy it as a breakfast, brunch, or midday snack. Your will love these sweet, sprinkly, frosted, fruity, flaky pop tarts and they might just clean up the whole batch before you are able to save yourself one! Enjoy Gluten-Free Healthy-ish Pop Tarts warm or cold. If you would like them warm, just pull them out of the fridge, place on a paper towel and warm in the microwave for 20-30 seconds.

What Kind Of Pastry Is Used To Make Gluten Free Pop Tarts

For these gluten free pop tarts I used a simple, one bowl pastry recipe that comes together in a cinch and is easily rolled with a rolling pin without sticking! It combines all-purpose gluten free flour with cornstarch, salt, and sugar.

Once those are whisked together, I create a well in the center of the flour and add all of the wet ingredients. This dough comes together pretty easily just by stirring and gently working the dough in the bowl no kneading or special equipment required.

Not all gluten free flours are the same! If you do find that the dough is a bit too wet and is sticky or it’s a bit too dry and you have some visible flour left behind you can simply add a teaspoon of milk or flour, depending on which you need, at a time until the dough is a workable consistency.

If you don’t want to make a dough from scratch you can always use a gluten free pie crust mix and assemble as instructed below. It won’t taste the same, but it’s sweet jam in a flaky pie crust pocket – you won’t find yourself complaining about it, promise.

Gluten Free Vegan Chocolate Pop Tarts

Enjoy a taste from your childhood with this recipe for gluten free vegan chocolate pop tarts! What better way to start the day than with a chocolate pastry. This pop tarts have a fudgy filling, delicate crust, and a sweet icing that you will love.

If you have children with food allergies, you probably try to make sure they arent missing out on anything. The life of a food allergy parent means making lots of things from scratch birthday cake, macaroni and cheese, and even Girl Scout Cookies.

The other day I was talking about pop tarts, and my son said, What are pop tarts?

I was stunned! Pop tarts were a big part of my childhood. But it makes sense, store bought pop tarts are not an allergy friendly item. Weve always dealt with gluten sensitivity, and we added nut allergies to the mix with my second son, so pop tarts were never on the table.

However, I cant stand by and have my kids miss out on a chocolate pastry pocket for breakfast, so here we are! Gluten free, vegan, allergy friendly pop tarts for everyone!

This recipes has a few more steps than the usual sweet recipes I share. You will need to make a chocolate crust, the fudgy filling, and a simple chocolate icing. But this really isnt a complicated recipe, it just takes a little bit more time.

These chocolate pop tarts are worth it! Once I came up with this version after lots of testing, my family couldnt stop eating them!

How Do You Make Gluten

Gluten Free Pop Tarts

This recipe is not a super quick oneit takes a bit of prep, so it might be a good idea to double the batch and save some for later. Plan at least 90 minutes for the complete recipe. To keep it simple, were using pre-prepared pie crusts, rather than homemade. If you have a favorite gluten-free pie crust recipe, feel free to use that instead.

The first thing you want to do is make the berry chia jam, then preheat the oven and line a baking sheet with parchment paper and roll out the pastry and cut into 12 rectangles. Then spread a bit of peanut butter and jam on 6 of the rectangles and cover with the remaining 6 rectangles and seal edges with a fork. Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes and place on a cooling rack and allow to cool. Make the glaze while cooling and frost as directed after they are cool . Serve with boiled eggs and cantaloupe and store in the fridge or freezer until ready to eat! Youll love them!

What Type Of Jam Is Best For Making Homemade Pop Tarts

Pop tarts have a lot of sugar, especially the store bought kind, but honestly even the homemade version is a bit over the top. You don’t want such sickeningly sweet pop tarts that make your teeth ache when you bite into them do you?! No way!!

In my homemade pop tart baking escapades over the years I have tried just about every type of jam and jelly available at the grocery. My absolute favorite jam to use is actually a sugar free, seedless jam.

I find that sugar free seedless jam stays in place when I’m stuffing and sealing the pop tarts, it’s less likely to become super liquid and ooze out of the dough when baking, and it helps to cut through the sweetness of the icing.

Speaking of icing…..

How To Make Homemade Gluten

TO MAKE THE GLUTEN-FREE PASTRY DOUGH

  • Chop the butter into small chunks and place in a small bowl. Put the butter, shortening, and water into the freezer for about 5 minutes or until really cold.
  • Add the gluten-free flour, sugar, and salt in a large bowl and stir to combine the ingredients.
  • Add the butter and shortening to the flour mixture and mix until the butter and shortening are incorporated into the flour. I use my stand-up mixer with the paddle attachment, but you can use a hand mixer or a pastry cutter.
  • Add in the eggs, water and apple cider vinegar and mix until the dough starts to form and all the ingredients are combined. The dough will be sticky.
  • Shape the dough into a ball, wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 45 minutes.

TO ASSEMBLE THE PASTRIES

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  • Unwrap the dough ball, cut the dough ball in half and place the half onto parchment paper lightly floured with gluten-free flour.
  • Shape the dough half into a rectangle. Lightly flour the pastry with gluten-free flour, and using a rolling pin, roll out the dough to about ¼-inch thick.
  • Using a pizza cutter, cut the dough into a 9-inch by 8-inch rectangle.
  • Cut out the dough into 3-inch by 4-inch rectangles. I used a ruler as a guide.
  • Place the dough rectangles onto a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Repeat the steps with the other half of the dough ball to make 8 more rectangles. These will be the tops of the pastries. You will have 16 rectangles in total .
