    Healthy Homemade Mars Bars

    It sounds deliciously calorific and sinful, but trust me on this- All those terms describe these healthy homemade mars bars, but given a completely healthy makeover.

    Whenever I hear the word mars bar, the first thing that comes to mind is Snickers bars which instigates the Debate.

    Nothing happened. I cant tolerate grains. I still very much believe in following the AIP template. And most of the recipes on this site are and will remain AIP. In the past, most of the readers have come to my site because they were just beginning their AIP journey. If you want your final mars bar to be more on the smooth and creamy side, transfer the batter to the lined pan when just firm. If you prefer a more fudgy, dense and firm nougat , transfer to the lined pan when the batter just forms.

    Now for the sticky caramel layer, lets backtrack to the two aforementioned ingredients- The sticky sweetener and nut or seed butter of choice. To create the caramel layer, youll need to just combine the two, melt and voila- Instant, healthy caramel.

    To take the caramel up a notch, add the optional coconut oil to the mixture. It not only adds a silky and smooth texture, but you wont be able to taste it whatsoever!

    Clif Bar, the California company known for its energy foods, philanthropy, and in particular its Pecan Pie flavored bars, announced that effective today all Clif Bar packaging, from Clif Shots to Luna bars, is gluten free.

    More than two million people in the United States suffer from the effects of celiac disease, said Clif in a press release. Thats 1 in 133. And since many of those folks are Clif customers, we felt it not just right, but a moral responsibility to remove gluten from every part of their Clif experience.

    The new packaging took three years and several million dollars to develop, said Clif. Gluten atoms have a particular affinity to recycled paper that comes from shredded copies of Mother Jones and the Utne Reader, which is the primary source of pulp in Clifs packaging. When rinsed with Tazos Organic Green Tea, however, they release their bonds readily a fortuitous discovery learned when a paper worker accidentally spilled his bottle in vat of pulp. Clif is now the largest consumer of Tazo tea in the country and is rumored to be considering purchasing the company.

    Clif didnt stop with packaging, though. It has vowed to become an entirely gluten-free company by 2017.

    Its an aggressive goal, I admit, said Kevin Cleary, president and CEO, but when future generations look back at our time theyll realize this was the dawning of enlightenment to the heavy cost society bears from gluten, and Clif Bar is determined to lead, not follow.
