Pepperoni Sausage & Six Cheese Epic Stuffed Crust Pizza

Papa John’s Has Made A Gluten-Free Pizza That Gluten-Intolerant Diners Can’t Eat | CNBC

The pepperoni, sausage, and six cheese pizza on an epic stuffed crust delivers 480 calories, 26g fat, 12g saturated fat, 40g carbohydrates, 20g protein, and 1,220mg sodium per slice.

If you’re craving a meaty pizza, order the small The Meats pizza on original crust. With plenty of sausage, bacon, and pepperoni, it’s slightly lower in calories, fat, and sodium. It includes 250 calories, 12g fat, 5g saturated fat, 26g carbohydrates, 11g protein, and 720mg sodium per slice.

What Is Papa Johns Gluten

When Papa Johns launched their gluten-free crust back in August 2017, the gluten-intolerant population rejoiced.

Suddenly they would be able to eat pizza without triggering symptoms of their celiac disease, and finally they would be able to enjoy pizza once more.

Before they added their gluten-free crust to the menu, Papa Johns did not offer a single gluten-free item, other than their drinks, so this was really groundbreaking for the chain.

The gluten-free crust that Papa Johns offers is made using a variety of ancient grains.

From quinoa to amaranth, the recipe is made using grains which are naturally gluten-free, so you do not need to worry about this base impacting your gluten-intolerance.

But, the fact that this base is gluten-free isnt the only benefit of this base.

As well as being naturally free of gluten, this base is also high in fiber and protein, making it a healthier alternative to the bases which include gluten.

But, there is one small issue with the gluten-free pizza crust that Papa Johns offers, and that is that it is not designed for those with celiac disease.

This is because there is a chance that the bases could be cross-contaminated.

Due to this, Papa Johns advertises their gluten-free base for those who are gluten aware, rather than those who suffer with celiac disease or severe gluten allergies.

So now that we know what it is, lets dive in and review this pizza base.

Papa Johns sauce and original hand-tossed dough are already completely plant-based and free from animal products, so satisfying that pizza craving might be easier than youd expect.

Since the pizza chain doesnt carry vegan cheese, however, those following a vegan diet will have to forgo the cheese completely, opting instead for extra sauce and veggie toppings.

Pricing and Size:

Because I couldnt find their gluten free pizza on their websites menu, I called the San Jose Papa Johns. The gentleman that I spoke to said that because their gluten free thin crust pizza only came in small, perhaps that is why it is difficult to find on their websites menu.

He went on to explain that a small cheese, thin crust pizza sells for $11.99 and he believes each additional topping is $1.00 extra.

Due to his uncertainty, he suggested that I contact customer service at 1-888-275-7272.

    What Is A Pizza Bowl

As of August 22, the Papa Bowls will be available at locations across the country for $7.99 . They will come in the Italian Meat Trio, Chicken Alfredo, and Garden Veggie flavors.

“We are very excited to offer Papa Bowls as a new menu category and as a new way consumers can experience our premium ingredients,” Scott Rodriguez, the senior vice president of menu strategy and product at Papa John’s, said in a statement to media outlets. “Our signature crust continues to be a beloved favorite, but we know that sometimes customers crave something different.”

The chain’s loyalty members will be able to get the bowls on August 15, a week earlier than everybody else.

The idea of the pizza bowl had already appeared in Yum! Brands – Get Free Report Pizza Hut’s South Korean franchise but, in that case, it still had crust that was shaped like the vessel to fill with ingredients.

Back home, however, major chains have largely kept *some* kind of crust to keep ingredients from mixing with one another — usually, this is the cauliflower pizza crust that has lately become popular with followers of low-carb diets.

“We want them to know we are committed to delivering on all of those cravings through our menu,” Rodriguez said.

Papa John’s Has A Bizarre New Menu Item

    • Publish date: Aug 10, 2022 2:21 PM EDT

While the biggest pizza debate of our times may be about whether pineapple belongs on one, the crust itself is a no less important point of contention.

Doughy, or thin and fire-burned? Deep-dish or, as some may remember from old Pizza Hut ads from the early aughts, cheese-stuffed? While some will die arguing that the crust is the best part of the entire pizza, others will discard it before moving on to the second slice.

The fast-food zeitgeist has, over the last decade, definitely favored those who choose to forgo or even minimize the carbs — the gluten-free food market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 8.3% to $10.96 billion from 2022 to 2029.

    How Much Is Too Much

    Papa John’s gluten-free pizza – is it really gluten-free?

So an awareness of the risk for cross-contamination is the main reason whyofficials from Papa Johns took the extra cautionary step and issued the disclaimer to prospective diners. Basically, they do not want to risk anyone, who would suffer the adverse effects, being exposed to ANY level of gluten.

And the companys need to warn the public is not totally unwarranted. According to a study published by The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, 10 mg of gluten is fairly safe for individuals with celiac disease or a gluten intolerance. When subjected to that particular amount, slight changes occurred to the intestinal wall but no build-up of inflammatory cells. Likewise, if exposed to 50 mg, an individual with celiac is looking at having a reaction. What happens if one ingests a food that has a quantity of gluten that falls in between 10 and 50 mg? More research is needed to answer that question. Therefore food franchises and restaurants will not take their chances on exposure to even trace amounts. There is too much to leave to chance without knowing exactly how much gluten is too much. Plus, a broad spectrum in tolerance levels among people with a wheat allergy or celiac is an imperative factor. Basically, taking precautionary measures is best.

Where Can You Find Gluten In Restaurants

Depending on the restaurant youre visiting, you may find gluten in a variety of places.

At fast food restaurants, there will be gluten in hamburger buns, the breading of crispy chicken sandwiches or chicken nuggets, some French fries, salad dressings, croutons on salad, and chili or soup options.

At other restaurants, youll find gluten in flour in sauces, in pizza or other pastry dough, pasta, and as a thickener in some soups.
