When you consider how much money and time you invest in grocery shopping, ingredient prep, and cooking each week, pre-packaged and prepared meal kits are well worth it. The cheapest meal delivery services for weight loss start at around $8 per meal, and allow you to choose from more than 150 pre-packaged meals and snacks, all portioned and packed with the nutrition you need to lose weight in a healthy way.

Another feature you can’t get at home? The best meal delivery services have dietitians that write the recipes and gourmet chefs to prepare the dishes , so you’re getting restaurant-quality meals designed to meet your dietary needs, without leafing through your diet cookbooks and trying to get each recipe just right after a long day working. This is especially helpful if you have a gluten-free allergy and you need to ensure your meals are free from specific ingredients.

If your worried about cost, one way to save money on meal delivery services is to order more meals the price-per-meal is generally lower when you order more meals per week. Most services don’t make you commit to more than a week at a time , so you can cancel your plan or restart it at any time and not lose money.

Gluten Free Meal Prep can be daunting if you’re new to it. Where to begin? Start with these 10 items and you’ll have healthy food all week.

As a somewhat type A person who loves to feel organized and prepared, I think meal prep is great for everyone.

But, I know from firsthand experience, it’s even more important if you’re gluten free. This is especially true if you’re just starting out on your gluten free journey. Casually picking up takeout gets a whole lot harder if you’re avoiding gluten, particularly if you live in a small town like I do.

Plus, if you’ve just given up gluten, or are working toward eliminating it from your diet, a lot of your standbys will no longer be options. This can feel limiting, but I promise that with just a little planning and prep, going gluten free is totally doable.

If you think of meal prep as all or nothing, it’s super daunting when you’re first starting out. Do you really have time to prep an entire week’s meals?

Don’t worry though! Even if you’re not ready for a full week’s worth of meal prep, even a quick meal prep session can make a big difference. Once you get the hang of that and meal prep becomes a habit, you just might find yourself doing more. There’s nothing like the feeling of going into a Monday knowing you have healthy meals prepped for the busy week ahead. It’s not just the time savings, but the mental relief of not having to worry about what’s for dinner.

Why Nutrition Is Important For A Gluten

A gluten-free diet excludes foods that contain the protein gluten, such as wheat and rye products. Gluten-free diets are essential for individuals with celiac disease, however, other health conditions may benefit from decreasing or avoiding gluten as well.

Gluten comes from a family of proteins found in wheat, barley, rye, and spelt and gives flour a sticky consistency when mixed with water. This consistency gives bread the ability to rise when baked and gives it its chewy texture.

Some individuals experience gastrointestinal symptoms or distress after eating gluten-containing foods. Those diagnosed with celiac disease must avoid gluten as it can lead to intestinal damage. Other people may avoid gluten if they have non-celiac gluten sensitivity, gluten ataxia, or wheat allergies.

Gluten-free diets help treat digestive problems and symptoms that may include bloating, diarrhea, constipation, gas, and fatigue. Other health benefits include reducing chronic inflammation in those with celiac disease.

While there are a number of health benefits to a gluten-free diet and those with celiac disease must avoid gluten, there are some downsides to consider. Individuals with celiac disease are at risk for nutrient deficiencies including fiber, iron, calcium, zinc, folate, vitamin B12, and vitamin D.

Gluten-free products are often lower in protein and fiber and they are not fortified with B vitamins. A carefully planned gluten-free diet can help prevent any nutritional gaps.

How To Decide On A Gluten

There are many factors to keep in mind when selecting a meal delivery service, especially if you follow a gluten-free diet.

    • Certification: In particular, if you have celiac disease or another gluten-related disorder, choose a service that is certified gluten-free or produces meals in a gluten-free facility to reduce the risk of cross contamination.
    • Variety: You may also want to check the menu for meal variety, including options that fit your tastes. Some meal delivery services offer options for other diets as well, like vegetarian or keto. This may be especially important if you have other dietary restrictions.
    • Ingredients: If you prefer organic food or meals free of artificial ingredients and preservatives, youll want to browse company websites for more information about the quality of ingredients used.
    • Prep time: Keep in mind that the amount of preparation required may vary. While some services deliver dishes that are ready to eat, others provide meal kits that often require 2040 minutes to cook.
    • Cost: Along with the price of each meal, youll want to consider the total cost. That means taking other factors like shipping and other add-ons into account.

A gluten-free diet is recommended for people with celiac disease, an autoimmune condition that causes the immune system to attack the small intestine in response to gluten exposure .
