Nothing happened. I cant tolerate grains. I still very much believe in following the AIP template. And most of the recipes on this site are and will remain AIP. However, the AIP diet is only meant to a temporary tool to help you have the least restrictive diet possible. If you would like to learn about the AIP, check out the Simple as AIP program. In the past, most of the readers have come to my site because they were just beginning their AIP journey. However, as they begin to reintroduce food back into their diet, my recipes stopped becoming as relevant. This is a recipe for those that have moved on and expanded on their diet.

That being said, grains arent the most nutrient dense protein available. I highly recommend these articles from The Paleo Mom for more information about the best protein for your budget and the role of plant protein in your diet. I look at these bars as a treat or snack. Its just a small part of more varied and nutrient dense diet.

Will he eat it? Probably not because hes still a very picky eater. But Im trying to present as many healthy options for him as possible so this picky eater stage, remains just a stage.

Im trying to set up healthy eating patterns and habits. I dont want to demonize any food in my sons eyes. No food is bad or good. Some just nourish you more. Grains just arent the most nourishing ingredient, so I keep them at a minimum and serve him more nutrient dense foods the majority of the time.

How To Shop For Dairy Free Gluten Free Snacks

Luckily these days, there are actually a lot of dairy free gluten free snacks on the market, as well as recipes you can make yourself. If youre just starting to eat with these restrictions, you might feel a little overwhelmed though! Here are some tips when youre shopping for snacks at the store:

First, lets start with dairy, because thats the easier one. Dairy is one of the top 8 food allergens, so it must be listed on a food label either in plain language or in a Contains: Milk statement.

If you dont see any dairy in the ingredients or in an allergen statement, you can rest assured that it should be fine to eat. Just dont forget to thoroughly look at the ingredients manufacturers do not have to use the contains statement as long as it is clear in the ingredients.

Gluten is a little trickier, because manufacturers are not legally required to label for gluten itself . The Gluten Intolerance Group has a complete list of ingredients to avoid, as well as a handy reference card that you can also download and use when eating away from home.

If you are avoiding gluten due to celiac disease or a sensitivity, look for the following options when shopping:

Also, be aware of products that include a statement about possible cross-contamination. Just because a product doesnt include ingredients with gluten doesnt mean that the product has not been contaminated with gluten during processing.

This was an accidental creation from my kitchen. Banana cream pie in a bowl is made by mixing up vanilla coconut yogurt with slices of banana and top with chopped walnuts. It sounds too good to be true, but its absolutely delicious!

Bonus Idea: Fresh Fruit

Last, but not least is fresh fruits & veggies. All fruit and vegetables are naturally gluten-free so long as they havent been coated or processed with any extra ingredients .

  • FRUITS: Strawberries, blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, bananas, cuties/clementines, oranges, grapes, apple slices, mango, kiwi, watermelon, canteloupe, avocados, etc. All the fruits!
  • VEGGIES: Carrots, celery sticks, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, bell peppers, snap peas, jicama, etc.

Chips Crackers & Salty Snacks

  • Siete Foods grain free tortilla chips and queso This is literally the best dairy free queso Ive ever had! You can if you cant find them in store.
  • Biena vegan ranch chickpea puffs and some of their roasted chickpeas: dark chocolate, cinnamon crunch, habanero, BBQ, sea salt, honey roasted, and rockin ranch
  • Apple chips Technically these are sweet and not salty, but theyre a chip so I guess Ill include em here? I love these apple chips for snacking or for making homemade versions of a Panera fuji apple chicken salads, which can easily be made gluten free and dairy free at home.
  • These are super crunchy but I like that about em. Theyre great for random solo snacking, or topping with tuna for a more substantial snack.
  • Glutino Pretzels These are great when youre craving a salty snack but you can also use them in your own homemade trail mixes. Or, grab some of these and dip them in a dairy-free chocolate dessert hummus.

Almost Instant Chocolate Chia Pudding

HEALTHY VEGAN SNACK IDEAS 3 gluten-free snack bars

This chocolate chia pudding is decadent-tasting yet healthy at the same time. Packed with protein, fibre, and omega-3 fatty acids this is a pudding you can feel good about! It will thicken up even more if you put it in the fridge for a few hours.     Some schools give guidelines that foods must not contain peanut or tree nuts but dont require them to be from nut-free facilities. Some do. Be familiar with the rules for wherever youre sending food so you can make sure to choose snacks that comply with their guidelines. And remember that although choosing allergy-friendly options like this can be a pain if your family does not have allergies, its important for the safety of a lot of kids and allergy families appreciate you putting in the time and effort to keep their kids safe.
