Amount Of Carbs And Protein

Protein Bars (Vegan, Gluten Free, Low Sugar, No Bake)

Depending on your specific health and fitness goals, you might want a protein bar that is high in protein but low in carbs or has a relatively similar amount of both.

Take a look at the number of grams of carbs and protein to see if it meets your needs.

For example, if you want to gain muscle, search for a bar that has a higher amount of protein than carbs to increase muscle recovery and muscle growth like the Misfits Protein Bar.

If you want to maximize your endurance, going for a gluten free protein bar that contains higher amounts of carbs than protein will be better to provide your body with fuel for your prolonged workouts, such as the Huel Protein Bar.

If youre using a protein bar as a meal replacement on a weight loss journey, search for a bar that has relatively similar amounts of protein and carbs, like Quest Bars. This will ensure that you have enough carbs to keep your energy levels up but you are still consuming enough protein to preserve muscle mass on your weight loss journey.

Atkins Low Carb Protein Bars

I love the Atkins bars. There are a ton of them, including some that are low carb. So, I was excited when I found out about Atkins new line of snacks. While Atkins bars are vegan , most of the new protein bars are gluten-free, sugar-free, and only contain 3-4 grams of sugar in the 1/3 cup serving. They are available in three flavors: Chocolate earth-nut, earth-nut, and Cookies and Creme. I got the Chocolate groundnut Butter flavor. This slice really did taste like chocolate earth-nut butter. I like it better than the one that was in the box I bought, which was the earth-nut Butter Chocolate flavor. Ive never liked chocolate earth-nut butter in my groundnut butter. I thought the chocolate peanut butter one was really good, but just not my favorite. Im pretty sure its a variation of the Chocolate earth-nut Butter one from Sams Club. Im really digging the earth-nut butter flavor, so Id recommend this one if youre a fan. I was surprised when I ate it because I thought that the photo on the front of the box, which looks nothing like the slice in the bag, had exaggerated the amount of earth-nut. The earth-nut flavor is really there. It was probably 1/4 of the chocolate portion of the stick. So, maybe its not even that great of a trade-off. I guess it depends on how you look at it. Its not as good as the earth-nut Chocolate flavor, but still pretty tasty.

Best Vegan Protein Bars You Wont Be Able To Resist

As a vegan, keeping fit and healthy is often a lot harder than it sounds. Not only do you have to ensure that your body gets the right nutrients, but you also have to check that whatever youre eating is cruelty-free. And with so many animal ingredients you have to avoid, getting the required nutrients can often be challenging.

Protein bars are an excellent way to give your body some extra nutrients to help rebuild your muscles after youve been to the gym. Its a massive industry, and there are hundreds of different brands that produce their own bars.

But with so many different recipes and ingredients out there, not all protein snacks are made the same. From different types of protein to different fillings, there are plenty of ingredients to look out for.

Traditionally, protein bars contain whey protein as their main ingredient. This type of protein comes from either casein in milk or is formed as a by-product of cheese making. As you can probably tell, whey protein isnt vegan since its an animal by-product. This often raises the question: are there any vegan protein bars out there that exist?

Well, the answer is undoubtedly YES.

Luckily, there is more than one source of protein out there, which means whey protein can easily be replaced by cruelty free alternatives. A good example of this is pea protein, which as you can probably guess, is made from peas.

Look For Higher Protein Than Carbohydrate Content

A lot of old-school protein bars out on the market were sneaky- they will often contain a huge amount of carbohydrates and a modest amount of protein.

Thats because, generally speaking, sugar tastes better than protein, so theyre trying to make a tasty bar.

This is no problem if youre looking for a yummy snack, but if youre trying to keep your blood sugar balanced and looking for a gluten-free, protein-rich bar to fill you up, then thats something youre going to want to avoid.

Luckily, lots of companies are starting to realize that their customers are looking for lower sugar content and have started to balance out the protein, fiber, and carbohydrate ratios a lot better.

Youll want to look for a bar that has at least 10 grams of protein per serving.

How To Make Homemade Low Carb Protein Bars

This recipe is so easy to make, you may never buy protein bars from the store again.

First, we combine most the ingredients in the food processor:

  • Add the whey protein, sweeteners, shredded coconut, and almond butter to your food processor.
  • Melt the coconut oil, then stir in the sea salt and vanilla.
  • Pour the coconut oil mixture into the food processor.
  • Process the ingredients until they start to form a ball of dough.
  • Then, we stir in the final ingredients and let the protein bars set:

  • With a rubber spatula, stir in the sunflower seeds and chocolate chips .
  • Line a 7×11 pan with parchment paper. This will make it much easier to transfer the bars out of the pan and slice them later.
  • Transfer the dough into the pan. Using a rubber spatula, spread the dough into an even layer.
  • Place the pan in the refrigerator for at least an hour to set.
  • After an hour, your low carb protein bars will be ready!

I recommend lifting the mixture out of the pan and then cutting the bars on the parchment paper. That way, they wont stick to the cutting board. I cut mine into 15 squares.

    Do Protein Bars Have Gluten

No-Bake Cookie Dough Protein Bars (low sugar, gluten free, vegan)

Some protein bars contain gluten, but some dont. Whether a protein bar contains gluten or not should be written on the label.

Gluten is a protein that is found in a variety of different grains, including wheat, rye, barley, or oats if they werent grown separately from gluten-containing grains. You might see these ingredients on the ingredients list of the nutrient label instead of the word gluten itself.

You may also see derivatives of these grains on the label as well, such as malt .
