    Does Italian Dressing Contain Diary

    Foodista

Typically, Italian dressing does not contain any dairy. Some variations of Italian dressing like Greek vinaigrette, may contain a little bit of feta for added flavor. A chef blending Italian dressing may throw in a bit of parmesan cheese for added flavor. But this is not common.

If a label says creamy Italian dressing, then there is a chance that it has dairy in it. Most companies will use mayo, cheese or eggs to make a dressing creamy. For example, Caesar salad contains egg in it to make it rich and creamy. Its important to always check the label. If you are at a restaurant, ask your server if the dressing is dairy free if you are lactose intolerant.

You Control The Ingredients With This Copycat Recipe Thats Easy To Make With Everyday Spices Fast Fresh

A packet of Good Seasons Zesty Italian Dressing provided a convenient shortcut for me for years.

I first discovered it when I was dating my husband and we were invited to a coworkers house for dinner. I dont remember what else was served that night, but I remember the salad.

The memorable vinaigrette produced a salad that tasted like more than the sum of its parts.

When I inquired, my office compatriot revealed his go-to dressing: a packet of zesty Italian made with balsamic vinegar instead of the white vinegar instructed on the package.

I bought a packet shortly after and have used it countless times for what my husband considers his favorite saladJacks Tomato and Cucumber Salad.

Between the short list of garden-fresh produce and the flavor-packed vinaigrette, Jacks salad is a summertime staple for sure. And almost too easy.

Somewhere along the way, Good Seasons added wheat to the spice blend, so its no longer suitable for those with a gluten allergy or intolerance. And sometimes, it can simply be nice to do it yourself, whether to control the specific ingredients or making use of the spices you likely have on hand.

Beyond the tomato and cucumber salad, the vinaigrette can be used in countless other salads and recipes that call for the Good Seasons packet. Next up, I plan to try the dry mix as a seasoning for simply seared shrimp.

I had the whole family on hand , and we leaned towards the same favorites.

    Green Goddess Salad Dressing

Do you remember Green Goddess Salad Dressing? I sure do, I used to love that bottled green stuff from Seven Seas when I was a kid. My mom used to make a delicious taco salad with it and I even used it to top my baked potato in lieu of sour cream. And its a great dipper for raw veggies!

Somewhere along the line, the dressing began to disappear from grocery store shelves and over time, I simply forgot about it. Then a few months ago, when I began recreating all of my favorite salad dressings to be free of: dairy, egg, corn, soy, refined sugar, artificial colors, preservatives, and gluten cross-contamination, my moms Green Goddess taco salad came flooding back in my memory as I tried to figure out a way to enjoy Mexican inspired foods again without the use of corn and dairy .

Before I could make the taco salad though, I needed Green Goddess dressing.

According to Wikipedia, Green goddess is a salad dressing, typically containing mayonnaise, sour cream, chervil, chives, anchovy, tarragon, lemon juice, and pepper and is named for its green tint.

I found the following ingredient list for Krafts Green Goddess Dressing on :

Soybean Oil, Water, Vinegar, Sugar, Dried Sour Cream , Salt, Contains less than 2% of Garlic, Xanthan Gum, Natural Flavor, Onion Juice, Spice, Polysorbate 60, Sorbic Acid and Calcium Disodium Edta As Preservatives, Mustard Flour, Yellow 5, Blue 1
