Top 10 Fast Food Restaurants For Gluten

Its easy to assume that searching for gluten-free options at fast food restaurants would be more hassle than its worth.

After all, it seems most menus feature every item between two slices of bread, or every meat rolled or coated in flour. While this might be great in terms of convenience and flavor, it can be rough for those suffering from a gluten allergy.

Fortunately, we decided to take a closer look at just how far fast food chains have come in catering to people with gluten allergies. The goodies we found were even more than we bargained for.

Check out the whole Panera Bread menu

With bread as part of its name, it can be easy to overlook Panera as a place to grab a rich and filling gluten-free bite. But fear not: Panera Bread actually has a long list of gluten-free items, including much more than plain salads.

Suggestions: Go Mediterranean and try the Greek salad. When were feeling extra-hungry, we pair it with a side of baked potato soup, followed by a coconut macaroon for dessert.

Check out the whole Chipotle menu

As long as you avoid flour tortillas almost everything at Chipotle is free of gluten. If youre highly gluten-sensitive Chipotle also recommends avoiding items containing corn, including corn tortillas and corn salsa, as they may have a small amount of gluten from potentially co-mingling with gluten-containing grains in the field.

How To Order Vegan Gluten

So, there are times where despite our best efforts, our only options just might be fast food, especially on vacation or a trip. On a road trip or in a podunk town with little to zero options for a healthy meal, I’ve found ways to navigate the fast food menu. I do not — I repeat, do not — advocate the consumption of fast food except for in a pinch and other compromising situations. So I suggest you print this blog in case of emergency!

Here are some of the biggies:

Subway – This one of the most veg and health friendly places if you are in a bind. You can always go with a veggie sub on Italian bread , hold the cheese and mayo, while piling on the veggies, avocado and mustard. You can also get this wrap style or forgo the carbs and chomp on a salad ) They do have veggie patties however, if your vegan, it’s a no-go as they contain egg. For allergy-sensitive folks, stick to the salads.

Quizno’s – These guys aren’t far behind Subway. I do love a warm sandwich, but Subway has better veggie options. Here I order a veggie sub, no cheese or mayo, add guac and vinaigrette. Toasty yumminess. Also, grab a salad if you’re not doing bread! Again, for allergy-sensitive folks, stick to the salads.

Pizza Hut – Vegans, we are screwed here unless we order multigrain dough with no sauce and tons of veggies. All other sauces and doughs contain dairy.

Coffee Bean – Soy lattes and hot tea with soy milk here. No yummy flavored drinks, as they use powders that all contain dairy.

Gluten Free Fast Food Review | Restricted Kitchen

Lets start with the star of gluten free fast food options, Chick-Fil-A. I dare say Chick-Fil-A is a step above fast food. Their service is amazing and their food is actually pretty good quality. If you are lucky enough to have a Chick-Fil-A near you here are the options they have for gluten free.

On their website, they only list grilled chicken nuggets as gluten free. If your Chick-Fil-A carries the gluten free buns though that is an option for their grilled sandwiches. If cross-contamination is an issue though always ask them if they can keep your food separate.

Youll Likely Want To Get Beyond Mcdonalds And Burger King To Find The Best Reliable Gluten

Caption:

Celiac.com 02/04/2019 – With the rise in popularity of the gluten-free diet, and with more people being diagnosed with Celiac disease, more restaurants are offering gluten-free alternatives. While this is a great advancement, its important to note that not all gluten-free restaurant choices are created equal. Even if food is labelled gluten-free, the risk of cross-contamination could still be high, especially given the speed with which food is prepared.

We see a lot of questions about gluten-free and gluten-safe fast food. One especially prominent question was Is Burger King gluten-free? The answer to that is that there is almost nothing gluten-free or gluten-safe at Burger King.

Celiac.com Sponsor :There are far better options than Burger King in the otherwise bleak gluten-free landscape of American fast food. In fact, if you want reliable gluten-free and gluten-safe options, youll probably want to get beyond Burger King and McDonalds.

Points To Remember When Looking For Gluten

Most of Arbys nutritional or allergen reports include disclaimers warning customers that its suppliers often change. They emphasize that its critical that its guests with special dietary restrictions review their website for the latest allergen information before eating at one of their restaurants.

Its also important to look at the list of all allergens more closely if you have more than one dietary restrictions that youre trying to adhere to. Theres a possibility that wheat-free products may contain other allergens that may cause unintended adverse reactions.

Kfc: House Or Caesar Salad

Gluten Free Fast Food: The Best GF Options at Every Major ...

Sorry, people with Celiac, but you’re basically beggars at the Colonel’s house. The gluten filter on the KFC site yields this sad mess of soft drink options, along with two salads that do not include dressing or croutons. To add insult to injury, they’reside salads. We suppose you could pass on the Caesar and load up on corn, coleslaw, and green beans, but that’ll just remind you of the other sides you’re missing.

Does Arbys Label There Gluten

Arbys provides easily accessible and detailed information about its different menu items on its U.S. website. For example, it has an Arbys Menu Items and Ingredients report in which it lists virtually every item on its menu along with its ingredients.

Theres also an Arbys Nutrition & Allergen Information document that details the macronutrients and other nutritional facts for each menu item .

That same multi-page report also lists whether certain menu items contain one of eight federally-regulated allergens, including:

  • Peanuts
  • Fish
  • Sulfites

This report also lists ingredients its Canadian stores use in preparing its menu items and the macros for each of them.

Should You Be Eating Out If Youre Gluten Free

There are many reasons to be gluten free. Some people have wheat, rye, and barley allergies, some people are celiac, some people have thyroid disorders, some people have IBS, and the list goes on. Each of these medical conditions requires different degrees of avoidance. Some people can tolerate minor cross-contamination. Others would end up in the hospital if they ate even a crumb of gluten.

Please dont read a list like this an automatically assume whats safe for me is safe for you. Its always best to discuss your needs with your doctor and determine on your own whats right for your body.

If cross-contamination is a risk for you I always suggest speaking to the manager prior to eating at a new restaurant for the first time. Find out if that specific location can accommodate your needs.

I am going to try to include information that I found on the following restaurants websites about cross-contamination. But I still think its wise to double-check with each restaurant you go to in order to ensure they are following those practices.

On Day Two I Headed Back To Mcdonald’s For Breakfast

I woke up feeling extremely tired. I wasn’t sure if the food or the heat in my room was to blame. I decided to hit McDonald’s again because it was convenient. But keeping in mind the mistakes I made the day before, I chose a more hearty dish, which also happened to be the only other thing I could eat on the McDonald’s breakfast menu.

What I ate: Two pieces of bacon and a folded egg, washed down with a strawberry and banana smoothie.

The verdict: Delicious. The bacon was crispy and not at all greasy. The egg didn’t taste too much like an egg or really anything at all, but in many ways, this made it the perfect simple substitute to bread.

When I walked out, I saw another customer had ordered the same thing but was garnishing his meal with fresh herbs. A smart trick!

The drink was very sweet with 39g of sugar, but it was nice to have something fruity.

Culver’s: Georges Chili Supreme

When much of your reputation is built on breaded and fried cheese curds, you’re not exactly a staple in the GF community. Yet surprisingly, Culver’s has several options. At another chain, the Cranberry Bacon Bleu Salad or Baja Chicken Enchilada Soup might be the recommendation here, but instead it s George’s Chili Supreme. because George was nice enough to put a “secret blend of peppery spices” in his slow cooker, and no gluten.
