Other Ways To Use A Bread Machine

Homemade Gluten Free Bread Recipe Made EASY! (in Bread Machine)

We briefly mentioned that there are other ways to use a bread machine, some of which aren’t even for bread! Many bakers simply use the paddle feature to mix their dough. You can do this, and then bake the bread in your oven the typical way, or you can save the mixed dough in the freezer to have on hand for emergencies. Another way bakers love to use bread machines is to make other types of dough, like pizza dough or pasta dough, for instance. Some models can even be set to make other things, like jam or mochi, as well, in case bread is not quite your jam . . . get it? Jam? Oh well . . .

Favorite Way To Store Gluten Free Bread

We have recently discovered the realm of wax food wraps. We bought some from Trader Joes and not only does it work from preventing my bread from getting stale , it also softens the crust just a little, making it easier to eat. Heres how it works.

  • Place bread in middle of a large wrap.
  • 2. Fold up one corner toward the center of loaf.

    3. Continue bringing each corner to the center, tucking in the sides like you would wrapping a present.

    4. Press down on the last corner flap and pinch edges until it sticks to itself and stays in place.

Thats it! Super easy to use and clean . I love that by using this eco friendly wax wraps, we are reducing the amount of plastic used in our home. Plus, my kids always have a hard time sealing up bread bag with ties anyway.

How To Make The Perfect Bread Machine Gluten Free Bread

  • Add ingredients in order listed and secure loaf pan in bread machine.
  • Select gluten free mode and push start. The kneading process will start.
  • 3. After the kneading process, there will be one rise for the dough. Then it bakes the bread.

    4. After baking is done, remove the pan onto a cooling rack and slide bread out. After it cools for 20 minutes, remove the paddle.

    5. After its cooled, slice and enjoy! This bread also toasts perfectly. We havent tried freezing it yet to see how that fares as weve always eaten through the loaf too quickly.

Tips For Choosing The Right Program

Obviously, and as we have already commented, the selected program is very important. Some bakeries have special programs for gluten-free bread, but not all, so it is essential to keep in mind that:

    • The gluten-free bread does not require long programs since they do not knead too much.
    • It is a good idea to help with a silicone spatula while kneading the corners so that the process is complete.
    • The long fermentation time improves the final texture obtained.
    • You can cancel the kneading phase after the baking of the bakery, since the gluten-free bread does not accept this phase well, so it is good to remove it or reduce it in time to the maximum.
    • Prolonged baking is a good idea as well since it is a wet bread and requires long cooking.

    Why Make My Gluten

    • Fresh gluten-free bread is very hard to come by, as Im sure you know. But with a breadmaker, it can be yours with very, very minimal effort.
    • Can I add the smell of fresh bread filling your house? Its not something a gluten-free person gets to experience very often, if at all!
    • It tastes LIKE BREAD. I think thats the best compliment I can give it! Of course, for a non-breadmaker recipe with a little extra muggle-like quality, see the crusty white recipe in my first book.
    • A gluten-free breadmaker is a fantastic investment as long as you get good use out of it! So feel confident that youve already got one foolproof recipe ready to try.
    • This recipe uses very simple ingredients, all of which you can find in supermarkets. No psyllium husk powder required!

So what does my gluten-free white breadmaker loaf taste like?

As I said like bread! It has a lovely crusty finish which is often impossible to find in gluten-free bread. Its miraculously flexible, not heavy or dense and has a lovely light crumb.

In terms of actual taste, as gluten-free bread flour is neutral-flavoured, theres no strange aftertaste like some specific gluten-free flours can provide. It just tastes like a wonderful white loaf!

All in all, its perfect for sandwiches, toast with a bit of butter and whatever else your heart desires.

Which Bread Machine Is Good For Making Gluten Free Bread

Not everyone has a bread maker. And buying one is not a cheap investment for sure. We first got ours after Coeliac diagnosis, thinking we could make better bread than we were buying. We could. But is still wasnt good enough and it wasnt that long before the bread machine got relegated to the cupboard and hand-baked loaves became the norm.

With the learning from my hand-baked Wholemeal Breadhowever and a number of requests from readers for a gluten free bread machine recipe, the time seemed right to work harder!

But what bread maker is best for gluten free bread?

Ill be honest, I only have experience of one. The Panasonic SD-2501. It is quite old now, but it has a specific gluten free setting. The current equivalent model is thePanasonic SD2511KXC. But bread machines have come a long way and there is now an all-singing all-dancing Panasonic SD-ZX2522 with a whole range of gluten free programmes, including for pasta and cake. Id love one, but to be honest it is a little above my price range.

There are of course a number of appliance companies that now make bread machines with a gluten free setting option. Just bear in mind that all bread makers are different. So whatever machine you own or buy, get to know it to understand how best to use it. If making gluten free bread, always use a gluten free setting if possible. And if you already own a bread maker which hasnt got one, use a quick/basic/rapid programme setting that only kneads once.
