To make gluten-free sugar cookies dairy-free, you can use vegan butter in place of butter. In some of my other cookie recipes, I also use coconut oil for my baking.

In this recipe, every ingredient seems to come through in the taste. The vegan butter tastes closer to a real sugar cookie that is made with butter.

Dairy-Free Sugar Cookie Recipe : Gluten-Free Meals
  • Make Smaller Cookies: This recipe makes 12 medium-sized cookies. If you prefer, you can make 24 smaller cookies by using halving the amount of dough for each cookie, and baking them for 8-10 minutes instead.
  • Make Sure to Line Baking Sheet: I highly recommend that you line the cookie sheet with either a silpat or parchment paper to prevent the cookie dough from sticking to the sheet. This also makes it easier to remove the cookies once baked.
  • Chill the Dough: Chilling the dough is essential in this recipe, as it makes rolling the dough into balls so much easier, as well as prevents the dough from spreading out too much while it bakes. It doesnt take much time, so dont leave out this step!
  • Cut off the Edges: If you find that the edges of the cookies are a little burnt/dark, simple use a knife or a spatula to cut off the brown edges to get a more uniform cookie color.
  • I prefer my sugar cookies plain , but feel free to decorate them with royal icing or buttercream frosting if you wish to!

Unfortunately, commercial egg replacers contain soy protein and wheat gluten- two highly processed, allergenic ingredients that cause digestive discomfort for many people.

But there are natural, unprocessed allergen-free ingredients that can be used to replace eggs and theyre probably in your pantry right now!

Before attempting an egg substitute, you need to determine the function eggs have in your recipe. Eggs can bind, leaven or moisturize.If a recipe contains only one egg, but a fair amount of baking powder or baking soda, then the egg is serving as the binder. This is an easy replacement that can be achieved with almost any of the substitutes listed below.

But if a recipe contains many eggs like a soufflé eggs are acting as the leavener and the binder. And the substitution will be a flop.

As a general rule, the fewer eggs a recipe calls for, the easier they will be to substitute.

  • 2 tbsp cornstarch = 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. arrowroot flour = 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. potato starch = 1 egg
  • 1 mashed banana = 1 egg
  • 1 Tbsp. milled flax seed + 3 Tbsp. water = 1 egg
  • ¼ cup unsweetened apple sauce = 1 egg
  • ¼ cup organic plain yogurt, whipped = 1 egg
  • 2 Tbsp. water + 1 Tbsp. oil + 1 tsp. baking powder. Mix well. = 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp agar agar powder + 1 tbsp water. Whip together. Chill. Whip it again. = 1 egg white
  • ¼ cup cooked pumpkin or winter squash = 1 egg
  • 1/4 tsp. xanthan gum + 1/4 cup of water. Let stand, then whip. 1 egg white

Gluten and dairy are delicious, I know, lets not pretend. LikeI dream of crawling into a giant pita bread with cheese in it and eating my way out almost every night. But dairy and gluten can cause a lot of trouble for many people all over the world and most of us dont even know it! Like myself, I never really had digestive issues after eating bread with cheese, so I thought: Im good. Seems like I won the genetic lottery. Smart, beautiful, humble and can eat pizza without having to cut it out of her stomach.

Turns out, my sensitivity to gluten, dairy and about 20 other types of foods shows up in other symptoms. Like pains in my joints, my muscles, my headSo yeah, I did a test, that cost me a lot of real money, not crypto, some dignity and a broken vein. Im in the process of eliminating the 20+ foods they found I shouldnt eat. And by eliminating I mean, eating everything that I already have in my fridge and not buying them anymore. I need to come up with new recipes and I will record the best ones here then probably share the meal plan, because I cannot keep anything for myself, but actual food.

Gluten Dairy Free Vegan Sugar Cookies

Texture wise, these cookies are super deceptive. Bake them too short, and theyll be super soft and need to be enjoyed pretty much immediately or within the first day. Bake them too long, and youll be left with crackers instead of cookies. The happy balance is to remove the cookies from the oven when they still look soft. Once they are out of the oven and cooling, they will firm up VERY fast, but still be chewy, soft and irresistible.

The original recipe calls for one cup of sugar , but I found with monk fruit sweetener, three-quarters of a cup was plenty. In fact, I found them to be a little too sweet, which is why SALTED almond butter was the next best sub.
