How To Make Gluten Free Biscuits And Gravy

HEALTHY BREAKFAST IDEAS | Gluten & Dairy FREE!!

This gluten free biscuit and gravy recipe is super simple! You can whip this together in about 35 minutes if you make your biscuits drop biscuits. You can also roll our the biscuit dough and cut them out if you prefer just keep in mind this will add time. I almost always do drop biscuits because theyre easier and faster than cut-out biscuits.

  • Make the biscuits: Mix together your dry ingredients and then cut in the butter. Mix the butter and flour mixture together until crumbly and then add the white vinegar and the milk. Mix it all up and drop 1/4 cup balls of dough on a greased baking sheet. Bake until fluffy and golden brown.
  • Brown the sausage: I start browning the sausage after I get my biscuits on the pan but before I put them in the oven. Brown the sausage for about 5 minutes and then stick the biscuits in the oven. The biscuits and gravy will be done at the same time this way!
  • Make the sausage gravy: After the sausage is completely cooked, stir in the gluten free flour, salt, and black pepper. Mix it together evenly and then add in your milk of choice. Cook over medium heat until the gravy thickens. Cook on low for 2 more minutes and then remove from heat.
  • Serve: Drop a biscuit or two on a plate and smother with your gravy.

Switching togluten free dairy free breakfasts is pretty difficult because dairy products and the grains that contain gluten, are extremely common in the American diet.

And even though you will find in stores a large variety of sweet or savory gluten free dairy free breakfast options they are probably not the best options for keeping a healthy digestion.

To my surprise most of them are advertised as healthy. Even if the package advertises whole grains or natural ingredients, when you read the back label you will also find a lot of refined low nutrient ingredients in there.

How To Make A Breakfast Casserole Dairy Free

Traditionally, breakfast casseroles are made with cream, half-and-half, or milk, along with loads of cheese and the rest of the ingredients. This doesnt fit the bill for those who have a dairy intolerance or choose not to eat dairy for any other reason, so my dairy-free casserole recipe is a great option for those who still love the idea of a breakfast casserole but need to go sans dairy!

When it comes to making a dairy free version of a breakfast casserole that still tastes rich, hearty, and delicious, heres what you can do:

    • Swap cream/milk for coconut milk or water:Using coconut milk whisked together with the eggs gives the same rich texture to the casserole as using regular cream. If you dont want the coconut flavour in your casserole you can also use a little bit of water to whisk with the eggs and that helps to fluff them up.
    • Switch regular cheese for a dairy-free alternative: Luckily, there are tons of dairy-free cheese options on the market now! A shredded dairy-free cheese such as Earth Island or Daiya brand will work, or you can choose a cashew or other nut-based cheese. I went with a mix of shredded dairy-free mozzarella and cheddar cheeses I found at my local grocery store for this recipe..
    • Skip the butter and use oil:Instead of using butter with the potatoes or hash browns, use olive oil.

Ingredients Needed For Gluten Free Biscuits And Gravy

Gluten Free Dairy Free Breakfast Ideas (Part 1)
    • Gluten free all purpose flour blend: Your favorite cup-for-cup blend. I like King Arthur but any kind should work!
    • Oat flour: I swear by using oat flour in conjunction with all purpose flour. I think the texture is so much better. Chocolate chip cookies are about the only thing I just use straight gluten free flour for without adding any oat flour.
    • Arrowroot powder: You can also use cornstarch or your other favorite thickener. I use it in the biscuits to help stabilize them so they hold together better.
    • Plant milk: Use something mild flavored. I prefer unsweetened almond milk for baking. But if you have a nut allergy you can also use flax, soy, or oat milk. Alternatively, you can use whole milk if you dont need your biscuits and gravy to be dairy free.
    • Plant butter: Once again, just use regular old butter if you can have it.
    • Breakfast sausage: I love the maple flavored sausage. You can omit the sausage or use a vegan sausage alternative if you prefer to go the vegan route.
    • White vinegar
    • Salt and pepper

Are you a steel cut oats fan? These chewy oats have a porridge-like texture and feel like a cozy hug in the morning. Theyre a fun way to mix up the standard Old Fashioned oats, and may have some slight benefits over them: though both are an incredibly healthy way to start the day! You can make a big pot of steel cut oats in 25 minutes and eat off of the leftovers all week!

Dairy Free Gluten Free Diet Benefits

Okay, so you might be a bit sad at first, but lets look at the benefits. And theyre many, because:

    • Were cutting out two often highly processed types of food
    • They also happen to be super common allergens.
    • Dairy contains several components that are inflammatory and have been linked to acne, several types of cancer and insulin resistance.
    • Foods that contain gluten often come with a high glycemic index and glycemic load that over time can lead to increased chronic inflammation, hyperglycemia, insulin resistance and diabetes.
    • When you cut out gluten and dairy you make more space for fruits, vegetables, seeds and nuts which are great sources of antioxidants. Antioxidants that we need to fight oxidative stress and thus inflammation in the body.

CFRG – Gluten and Dairy Free Breakfast Casserole

A simple but nutritious gluten- and dairy-free dinner might include grilled London broil paired with cooked quinoa or brown rice, steamed vegetables and a dessert of fresh fruit. Avoid excess saturated fat, cholesterol and sodium by choosing lean cuts of beef or pork, skinless poultry and seafood over fattier cuts or processed meats. Cook grains like quinoa or rice in water instead of commercial stock or broth that may be prepared with ingredients containing gluten. By including leafy greens like bok choy or collard or turnip greens in your vegetable rotation, you’ll ensure you get plenty of calcium.

    Why Follow A Dairy

    Well, let me explain.

You see, we all have consumed grains, dairy, legumes, and meat in our lifetime, yes? Yes! I eat them all. Gluten-free grains of course.

But heres the thing. As I sit here typing up this post, I can tell my brain and body need a little calming down. Its been on the crazy cycle for oh weeks now! YIKES! Yes, stress can really take a toll on ones health and deplete you of important key MINERALS.

You know what else it can do? It can cause that oxidative stress to rise and if we are under chronic stress , the physical and mental kind, then our immune system is going to have a hard time responding. It will try to react and recover but doesnt have the necessary nutrients in order to do so. Hey, its pretty tired of trying to fight, ya know? Hence the continuous inflammation of the body and brain. Sad, but true.

On the other hand, a little stress and a little inflammation can be good for the body. If you are healthy, managing stress, and moving the body daily, then your body will easily recover from that acute stress and build it up stronger.

Unfortunately, for many of us, we get stuck in the chronic stress cycle. Am I right? Raising hand! Which is why I thought it was about time we make another anti-inflammatory meal plan. Our first anti-inflammatory meal plan focused on grain-free and gluten-free recipes. This plan focuses on gluten-free and dairy-free.

What Breakfast Foods Can I Order That Are Gluten And Dairy

25+ Gluten Free and Dairy Free Breakfast Recipes

A lot of foods made in restaurants have both gluten and dairy, and surprisingly, Ive found breakfast to be harder than both lunch and dinner in terms of options.

Most oatmeal dishes are okay if you are able to tolerate some amounts of cross contamination of gluten .

Many egg dishes should be okay, but many are made using milk or butter, so youll want to check with servers. Most fruit cups should be okay, as well as dairy-free yogurt. It helps to look ahead at menus before you go so you know there will be options for you!

For example, eat a mid-morning, afternoon or evening snack of almonds with fresh whole or sliced fruit. Other acceptable but healthy snack choices include plain popcorn tossed with olive oil and your choice of spices or herbs, rice cakes spread with nut butter or a bean-dip like hummus served with a gluten-free option like rice crackers or raw vegetable sticks.
