Enjoy Boston Markets Gluten Free Offering

The Vegan Roadie S01E03 (Boston, MA)

Boston Market is near the top of our list of places we suggest dining at if youre looking for a gluten-free experience. The food here is always top rated, and the abundance of items on their gluten-free menu means you wont have to skimp or stick to a protein only meal to stay away from it. Instead, you can dine heavily on the best the restaurant has to offer. When you head over to Boston Market, youre going to feel like youre a welcome and important part of their family of customers, with your dietary needs well provided for and your satisfaction as important as any other diner there.

Where Can You Find Gluten In Restaurants

Depending on the restaurant youre visiting, you may find gluten in a variety of places.

At fast food restaurants, there will be gluten in hamburger buns, the breading of crispy chicken sandwiches or chicken nuggets, some French fries, salad dressings, croutons on salad, and chili or soup options.

At other restaurants, youll find gluten in flour in sauces, in pizza or other pastry dough, pasta, and as a thickener in some soups.

Where gluten is found in the menu items will vary from restaurant to restaurant. Thats why its always a good idea to review menus from home, and see if you can find any allergen information before you get to the restaurant itself.

Being able to review nutritional information and allergen statements before visiting a fast food restaurant can be the difference between ordering something that you think is safe for your gluten-free diet and getting sick.

Being knowledgeable about what specific menu items youll be able to eat without any worries of later reactions is crucial to sticking with your gluten-free diet.

What You Need To Know About The Gluten

Boston Market has a specific page for Allergens and Special Diets on their website, which makes it easy to narrow down your options for any allergies or food intolerances you may have.

Boston Market does a good job at making their allergens known and you can find a number of entree options that contain no gluten-containing ingredients. This is encouraging for folks who are gluten intolerant, as many restaurants have very little options for folks who avoid gluten.

That said, none of the menu items are considered truly gluten-free. This is because there is gluten in their kitchens and its always a possibility for cross contamination to occur in the prep areas and with shared equipment and utensils.

Keep this in mind when reviewing the options below and before deciding whether or not to visit this restaurant based on what you know about how your body tolerates gluten from cross contact.

Dedicated Gluten Free Restaurants In Boston

There arent all that many dedicated gluten free restaurants in Boston, and I found the lack of options a little disappointing compared to other cities in the Northeast like Philadelphia and, of course, New York City, which is basically gluten free heaven.

Grainmaker

We loved Grainmaker so much that we actually went three separate times over the course of about six days in Boston.

Think Chipotle, but with a focus on Southeast Asian flavors instead of Mexican flavors. Its fast-casual, and they have options to do their premade signature bowls, or to build your own. They also have excellent vegetarian options too, which was great for us .

Most of the bowls use a rice base, and then you get a combination of veggies, a protein, and some other toppings followed by a sauce. They also have some salad dishes and noodle dishes if a rice bowl isnt what youre in the mood for.

We really liked both the OG a peanut lime sauce with sweet potatoes and kale/bok choy and the curry, which was surprisingly spicy .

Last, but certainly not least, they have pan-fried potstickers that we enjoyed, especially when dipped in the slightly tangy, savory ponzu sauce.

There are a couple of locations in Boston, one in downtown Boston, one west of the city center in Somerville, which we stopped at on the way to and way back from visiting friends in Vermont.

Poke by Love Art

The Hot Luau bowl was definitely the favorite were suckers for a good kick of spice, and the garlic edamame salad was lovely.

Dedicated Gluten Free Bakeries In Boston

There are two gluten free bakeries in Boston , and one of them is actually in Cambridge, a solid distance away from downtown Boston and the core that most tourists stay in.

Violette Bakery

Violette Bakery is the gluten free bakery over in Cambridge, which is a 15-20 minute drive away from downtown Boston. Unfortunately, we thought it was the better bakery even though its by far the less convenient option to reach.

If youre looking for some gluten free treats, this is the best place to go. They have eclairs, cupcakes, cookies, brownies, and cream puffs. Plus, some other take-and-bake options and things like frozen quiches.

Alysha had defected from the #glutenfreelife for the morning, and she had gone to the excellent bagel place a few doors down , so I was on my own for this one. I got a slice of squash and chèvre quiche, an eclair, and a Boston cream puff .

They also have weekly specials that are available for just a couple of days that look amazing. We werent around to take advantage, but you can see the upcoming schedule here on their website.

Did I eat all that? I sure did. Although Alysha did get a few bites of the eclair and cream puff when I was done with them.

Its worth noting that they do use gluten free oats in some of their products, so if youre sensitive make sure to ask them to help you figure out what does and doesnt have oats. The staff were more than happy to investigate ingredients, in my experience.

Jennifer Lees Bakery

Narrator: they didnt.

One important note: There are a lot of places that have gluten free options in Boston, but that we wouldnt feel comfortable eating at for various reasons . As a result, you wont find them on this list. Which, sadly, means that youre not going to find things like gluten free lobster rolls or gluten free cannoli on this list, because exactly none of the places we reached out to had a good answer for how they prevent cross-contact . Its a bummer to not be able to experience a lobster roll or proper cannoli, but speaking as someone who has been there, you definitely dont want to be sick on vacation.

Top notch service and our food was delicious! Our waitress, Jessica was probably the friendliest server we ever had. Attentive and professional. Also I want to mention Julius because he spent some time chatting with us. What a great place. We had surf and turf which was awesome, cooked to perfection. I had prawnscampi and it was extraordinarily good. I especially loved the lemon wine sauce. Our drinks were great too! Bloody Mary and Belvedere on ice were so good. I wanted to mention the little extra care in presentation. I loved the mint and whipped crepe on the side of our dessert which was amazing. I highly recommend this restaurant, you won’t be disappointed! Just great in every way.

Rotisserie Kitchen Presents The ‘future Of Nuggets’ To All Locations

Boston Market announced the launch of Rotisserie Chicken Nuggets, a healthier grab-and-go meal option that currently does not exist in the market and is packed with big flavor. The nugget innovation will be available at all 315 restaurants nationwide and can be ordered in either signature or spicy flavors.

Boston Market’s Rotisserie Chicken Nuggets are prepared with 100-percent all-white meat, taken from the best part of the chicken, and portioned into bite-size pieces, so that no two are alike. The nuggets are marinated with Boston Market’s rotisserie chicken seasoning or spicy seasoning.

The all-white-meat pieces are made-to-order and roasted in the brand’s rotisserie oven, receiving the same treatment its customer-favorite chickens get, thanks to a proprietary basket cooking method created by Boston Market. The basket allows the rotisserie oven heat to gently roast each and every nugget as it rotates, similar to what the rotisserie chickens do at our restaurant.

“The Rotisserie Chicken Nuggets will set the new standard for nuggets,” said President and Chief Rotisserie Expert for Boston Market, Jay Pandya. “They are bigger than our competitors, healthier than fried alternatives, and packed with flavorthere is no other true rotisserie option on the market.”

All meals including a la carte options can be ordered in either the signature or spicy style.
