What Makes This Breakfast Bar Recipe Special

Whether it’s blueberry season or not, this recipe for Starbucks-style blueberry breakfast bars is a great breakfast alternative to granola bars. I believe that Starbucks calls them blueberry oat bars.

If you can’t have oats, no worries. I have plenty of suggestions for how to make them oat-free.

The crust is like an oat-shortbread. It’s buttery and kinda crumbly, with the slight chew of oats mixed in. The crumble topping has the perfect nubby, crisp-tender texture of a proper crumble topping.

The blueberries keep their shape even after baking, because the crust doesn’t take long to bake. That means they don’t melt into a silky sauce to be eaten with a spoon, like in our gluten free blueberry buckle.

Reviews From Real Customers

Absolutely horrible, an unexpected disappointment from the Kind Company! I gave it a hesitant two Stars, because at least somehow they almost managed to make gravel and mulch taste good

For the health benefits it claimed, the taste of the product was very disappointing. I would not buy again.

Can These Oat Breakfast Bars Be Made Dairy Free As Well As Gluten Free

cranberry

Yes, absolutely. To make these Oat Breakfast Bars dairy free, the only extra care needed is to check the dark chocolate chips are safe to eat. However, check labels to make sure there is no unexpected dairy, before you add them. If you cant find safe chocolate chips, then use a dairy free, vegan chocolate bar and simply chop it up. The chocolate from Moo Free for example, is vegan and also soy free.

Start With A Gluten Free Base

Strawberry Protein Breakfast Bars / BUDGET FRIENDLY MEALS #extermebudgemeals #glutenfree #oatmealbar

The first step when making the ideal gluten-friendly breakfast bar is to start with a gluten free base. Many breakfast bars made with whole grains do contain gluten, and it’s important that you choose a certified gluten-free base. There are many gluten free bases to choose from, such as gluten free oats, amaranth, flaxseed meal and gluten free baking flour. When deciding which base will work best with your recipe, consider the flavors you’ll be using. While we’ll talk more about this in the next step, you’ll want to make sure that the base’s flavor blends well with the ingredients you’ll be adding to your recipes. Oats have a mild flavor that can be combined with just about anything, while amaranth has a more robust flavor and will need to be blended with equally as potent-tasting ingredients.

Peanut Butter Granola Bar Mix

Made as written, these are pretty healthy peanut butter granola bars! That said, there are always fun ways to dress them up with mix-ins and toppings. Here are some of our favorites

  • Drizzle with chocolate
  • Add mini chocolate chips. Or, sprinkle the tops with mini chocolate chips right before you pop them in the fridge. Pack them down a bit with your spatula to help them stick!
  • Add M& Ms or chocolate candies. Give them a bit of a monster cookie feel by adding just a few m& ms.
  • Stir In Chopped Peanuts. Stir in 1/4 cup chopped peanuts for extra crunch.
  • Add A Sprinkle Of Cinnamon. Or, try adding a little cinnamon. Just 1/8-1/4 teaspoon goes a long way!

Heres What You Need To Make No

  • Quick Oats. Quick oats work like a charm for gluten-free granola bars. Theyve got a great soft texture that packs down well and doesnt make them too chewy. If youre gluten-free make sure to use gluten-free oatsBobs Red Mill& One Degree brand are two of our go-tos!
  • Crisp Rice Cereal. Heres the secret for a granola bar with great texture! Youll cut the oats with crisp rice cereal. It adds lightness and crunch, which is crucial, in my opinion! Note: this recipe doesnt work as well with puffed rice. We recommend crisp rice cereal only. See the FAQ for our favorite GF brands!
  • Natural Peanut Butter. We want the drippy kind of creamy peanut butter made with just peanuts or peanuts and salt. If youre using peanut butter spread , you may need to play with the amount of liquid in the recipe to keep these from being dry. We love PB Co old fashioned peanut butter best, but you can use your fave!
  • Honey. Next up is some honey. This adds sweetness and helps bind the granola bars together. If youre vegan, feel free to use agave or pure maple syrup instead.
  • Vanilla. I love adding some vanilla to peanut butter granola bars! Its that little secret something that makes them so good!
  • Salt. Trust me. It wont turn your granola bars salty, itll just balance that flavor like a dream.
  • Some Chocolate Chips . Im not here to tell you what to do, but Im just going to casually mention that drizzling these no-bake peanut butter granola bars with a little melted chocolate is super delicious.

Reviews From Real Customers

GoMacro has a lot of good ingredients, but there are two things that outweigh those: its dense and it has added sugar. The bar is very chewy and dense, and hey, some people may like that, but I found that sometimes I needed a swallow of water for the bite to go down.

And as one might expect from a dense bar it sits in your stomach. The added sugar I find baffling. Yes, its coconut sugar, which may sound healthier but processed sugar, no matter where its derived from is sugar.

Instead of adding fruits they add sugar and I prefer unprocessed fructose to something processed. I hope they can tweak their recipes soon, because theres a market for healthy vegan bars and this one falls just short.

These GoMacro Bars are great for someone with dietary restrictions. I have celiac, chemical and food sensitivities, and other digestive issues. I can eat these with no problems. Most snack bars have oatmeal or date sugar in them.

PACK THEM DOWN! My #1 tip for helping no-bake granola bars stick together and have great texture is to pack them down. Press down firmly with the back of a flexible spatula. Then do it again. Seriously. The more you pack them, the better theyll hold together!

Can I Use Rolled Oats Instead Of Quick Oats To Make Granola Bars? What About Steel-Cut Oats? Quick oats are the best choice for making homemade peanut butter granola bars because they have a softer, more easy to chew texture. They also pack down more easily, which helps the bars stick together. Rolled oats will be chewy, and more likely to fall apart here. Steel-cut oats wont work at all, since theyre too hard and chewy to eat raw.

Are Rice Krispies Gluten-Free? No! Rice Krispies brand cereal is NOT currently gluten-free. While rice itself is naturally gluten-free, many crisp rice cereals are made with malt syrup, which comes from barley and contains gluten.
